"For a cat, just like that an ordinary day becomes extraordinary"
Oh Dear, Oh Deer! Mom loves coexisting with the all wildlife here, including wild turkeys, black bears, raccoons, opossums, foxes, deer, bobcats, chipmunks, (not the coyotes, but we respect their space).
The deer have NEVER been interested in eating the ivy, until NOW!
Mom took me out for my evening business last week, and there was a HERD of deer in the yard!
I was on leash, or I would have showed them who’s BOSS!
The deer took off, but not before making a buffet out of the ivy, leaving only ivy stubs and their good prints.
The backyard (and drainage hose) was completely covered with ivy, before the deer munched and dug around.
Mom and I spent the day spreading fresh mulch.
❤️ Pup

Ooooooooh no 😱Pup‼️ Da deer we very lucky you had mom on a leash or you would’ve been up in their dear deer faces. Thank you for reminding Auntie of a nursery rhyme/song from 1943 that her mom used to sing.I know your Mom knows it too. It had an unintelligible lyrics that were decrypted
Title Mares Eat Oats/Mairzy Doats
Inspired by an old traditional English rhyme for children, “Mairzy Doats” is a 1943 composition by Milton Drake, Al Hoffman, and Jerry Livingston.The unintelligible lyrics of “Mairzy Doats” have a very pleasant melodic line and can be decrypted as “Mares Eat Oats”. Click here to hear the song
Here are the lyrics:
Marezedotes,
doezedotes
littlelambszedyvy
kidzedyvy too.’
Lovingly your Auntie HiC😍😘
Mares eat oats;
Does eat oats;
Little lambs eat ivy;
Kids eat ivy too.
if a bear would ap-bear here it would be like the end of the world as we know it.... even an escaped camel from a circus caused chaos and clueless people ;O)))
ReplyDeleteWe always love seeing pictures of your wildlife, although Bertie thinks it totally unfair that Pup was kept on a leash around the deer. Gail has never heard the 'Mairzy Doats' ditty before.
ReplyDeleteIf I see a bear, I'm moving :)
ReplyDeleteMy uncle used to sing Marezedotes to me when I was little. I think the next line was "Wouldn't you?" Actually no, I wouldn't eat ivy too!
ReplyDeleteI sing the latter version...mares eat oats
ReplyDeleteHari OM
ReplyDeleteWow, that's a yard with stuff going on! And that ditty is a new one to me... YAM xx
Those deer can do lots of damage to a beautiful yard and now you have me singing Mairzy Doats☺
ReplyDeleteWOW - a nature preserve in your own yard! We sort of have that here but a lot of them visit at night when we're asleep and we just see the "result" of their visit in the morning. My Mom sang that song to me too - and I've sung it to nieces and nephews of the right age as well....it's been passed on and on and I STILL sing it to myself once in a while (or to Teddy!).
ReplyDeleteHugs, Pam
Love the pictures...me and mommy also have a nature preserve here but...now I have an ear worm!!!!! Mairzy doats!!!! I ddn;t learn the real words till middle age.
ReplyDeletesorry you ivy is gone, but wow on having deer eating it and going out while they were doing it. happpy you had a leash on.. we thought about getting a goat to eat the weeds in our yard, but they can't tell the difference and would eat all of it just like your deer did. i listened to the song and this is my first time hearing it.
ReplyDeleteBummer on the deer eating the ivy. Mom remembers that song.
ReplyDeletePup sure has lots of critters to keep track of at home. Our grandpa (mom's dad) used to sing that fun song.
ReplyDeleteYou have wildlife and pups and kitties. What's not to love.
ReplyDeleteThank you for joining the Feline Friday Blog Hop.
Have a purrfect Feline Friday and weekend. Big hugs, my friend. ♥
Hi I'm Dori. I'm new to yoo blog, but I so enjoyed seeing yoor adventure. I live in FloryDa. We get deer and marsh rabbit, and huge great horned owls. And a couple weeks ago we had a bob cat stalking the rabbit in our back yard! Very exciting, except my momma kinda hollared at Bob and shooed him off so the rabbit could live another day. I will be back! Love, Dori
ReplyDeleteSuch fun Pup exploring! I think our coyotes are back, we're trying to figure out which feral(s) are missing :(
ReplyDeleteOh boy send them over- we have too much ivy around here! When we lived in the mountains I loved seeing all the deer, rabbits, squirrels, woodpeckers, foxes, bobcats and sometimes we would find bear and cougar tracks! YOW! Take care!
ReplyDeleteHow lucky you are Pup, to see so much wonderful wildlife!!
ReplyDeletexoxo,
Rosy, Sunny & Jakey
PeeEss...Mama NEVER knew the actual words to the lyrics you posted Aunty C(she always sang the lyrics on the left)...the song makes much more sense to her now BOL!
Pup, you ARE the Boss! I have always done the lyrics on the right. So sorry about the ivy, Pup and Pup's Mom.

ReplyDeleteBeautiful deer. My great-aunt taught me that song. :) XO
ReplyDeleteI think all the woodland critters come by your house to view you inside like you were in a zoo.
ReplyDeleteHi Pup. It's nice your Mom feeds the deer. That helps them grow big so that there's more for you to eat. (No one got us a deer this year, phthhh!) XOX Xena, Lucy and Chia
