Today we join Two SPOILED CATS
Angel Sammy and Teddy for their poetic pictorial poem.
Here is today's inspiration
Way back in the fifties, style choices were iffy.
No matter the weather,
the gals had to wear dresses.
Only when the weather was messy,
could we wear slacks under our dresses.
The slacks had to come off before our classes.
If you were nimble,
jumpin' double rope was no problem.
If you lost concentration, it would lead to trouble.
You were sent to the nurse for a scrub and some
LOVE.
oh good to know the trick to skip school. our nurse rarely sent someone home, you had to carry your head under your arms or you had to stay LOL

ReplyDeleteOh yes, that all sounds very familiar!!! YAM xx
Mom remembers the dresses well and she loved to jump rope but not double. I guess she lost concentration☺
ReplyDeletelol.........and I always wore shorts under my dress and played football instead of jump rope :)
ReplyDeleteThose were the good ole days of jumping rope. A lot of fun. Have a super day.
ReplyDeleteCute poem!

In England we always called it 'skipping', never 'jumping rope'. Yet another example of those differences in language use that one never hears about!
ReplyDeleteCheers, Gail.
That is a great poem for that picture. Our mom says she remembers jumping rope a lot but she never did double dutch.
ReplyDeleteThat was a fun poem and life was simpler once upon a time.
ReplyDeleteI went to school where the girls wore dresses. I didn't know any different. Remember when they measured if they thought your dress was too short. I do too. Love the walk down memory lane.
ReplyDeleteHave a fabulous day, honey. Big hug. ♥
Not only dresses in the photo, but a few in headscarves!
ReplyDeleteyou didn't DARE go to our grade school in slacks//pants, or have your skirt/dress XX above the knee, then in freshman year of HS all H broke out and we were wearing bell bottoms and mini dresses and fish nets and go go boots and peace medallions and CPO jackets and tie dye and flower power.......lordie ~ ☺☺☺♥♥♥
ReplyDeleteBrings back memories. In First Grade--we had no kindergarten--the year seven girls came down each morning and afternoon to help us on with our snow pants, jackets, scarves, hats and boots! Amazingly, I don't remember being cold while playing outside with bare legs.
ReplyDeleteGood job with the poem! So many memories from this photo - fun ones - I had forgotten we were allowed to wear slacks if it was super cold!!!! Thanks for having fun with us on Sammy's Poetry day!
ReplyDeleteLove, Pam
Great job on the poem. XO
ReplyDeleteGreat poem! It's amazing how much fashion has changed in out lifetime!
ReplyDeleteGood poem. My knees were habitually scabbed.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad we can wear what we want these days!
