Recap on December 14, 2024, I posted this symmetry photo with a hint of more to come
FYI: Lots of steps at the museum and lots of elevators too.
More photos to come...we recently took a tour of the East Building of the NC Art Museum hosted by the
Our tour on December 5, of the NC Art Museum was one hour long,
Pardon some of the snaps...there were 50 folks on the tour.
Five docents 10 to a group so lots of heads and bodies in my way.
Our docent was especially fond of modern art and shared lots and lots of information.
This one is called Man with Renoir.
Several walls of this 3D art and very colorful
our Docent asked for thoughts about it. Many spoke of fences
I liked the vibrant colors. surprise surprise
Most beautiful Menorah I've ever seen. It was actually on loan to the White House many years ago for a State Dinner
There were many more beautiful pieces of Jewish art lots of silver and engraving. This was a small room and very hard to snap. Our Docent had lots of information to share about this small exhibit.
****************
Only non Modern Art she spoke about...because we asked about it. We've seen it many times but thoroughly enjoyed the comments she had and those of those in our group
Polychrome Mosaic Pavement
Roman possibly from Vienne, France
2nd Century
Marble, limestone and glass.
Too funny there were some math geeks in the group contemplating how many parts and pieces.
My friend Ramona a fantastic Mosaic artist would have loved this.
Once again apologies for the snaps. This was one of three men who were always in my view.
Below is info on the Artist Edmonia Lewis
Click here Edmonia Lewis to read more about Edmonia. Very impressive lady.
there is also an US postal stamp in her honor now.
American Artist 1844-1907
The Old Indian Arrow Maker and his Daughter.
The seamstress in me found this to be a very interesting piece of art!!!
I could only snap 2 of the 3 Tlingit Baskets by Preston Singletary, Tlingit, born 1963
This exhibit concluded our one hour tour which passed quickly we needed to scurry to pick boxed lunches.
I thank the......
NC Retired Government Employee's Assoc. for the tour and there was a free lunch...
Free Lunch was catered by Jason's Deli, we had a choice of our sandwiches.
We both had ham on wheat, with packages of mustard or mayo, Miss Vickie's Potato chips,
large kosher pickle, water and a huge chocolate chip cookie. 5 ***** . No photos we grabbed our lunch made a quick exit. Someone in our group wore an entire bottle of perfume. I am very sensitive to strong aromas. Coupled with being inside I had a headache.
As soon as we got outside the headache was gone.
Each person on the tour received a very nice tote with lots of pockets
Everyone loves lots of pockets.
Thanks for that wonderful tour. All very interesting exhibits. The Menorah and mosaic, stunning! Glad to read they have elevators in that place, lol! Sorry about your headache but glad it disappeared when you got outside. I remember a weird reaction to cleaning products in a building once. I wonder if it was due to something like that?
ReplyDeletewow that was impressing... this wonderful menorah... and the man with renoir, that is something super arranged... love it...

ReplyDeleteFirst, I hear you on the perfume thing... My asthma is very reactive in those situations. Fortunately, these days, such encounters are now few, but it surely catches me out when it happens.
Second... fabulous outing!!! Thanks for the info plates too. I really like Reclining Dress. YAM xx
The mosaic floor and the Menorah are beautiful. I liked the Man with Renoir too. A great tour and lunch included!
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a fun tour and a free lunch would work for me. I have the same problem with perfume. Usually if a customer comes in with very strong perfume on I start coughing and can't stop.
ReplyDeleteThe tour was wonderful (minus the overpowering perfume), thanks for sharing! That Menorah is absolutely incredible, beautiful! The semi-reclining dress and mosaic really caught me eye too!
ReplyDeleteYes, you know it. I love the mosaic. That one was tedious. The dress reminds me of a dancer being dipped. Very pretty lines. I also am allergic to strong perfume smells. I will start sneezing my head off.
ReplyDeleteThat must have been a fun and incredible tour. Glad you had such a good time except for the smell and the headache. I'm extremely allergic to artificial Aromas and I understand what you're saying. I really like the menorah and that Mosaic Tile the best.
ReplyDeleteWe are so blessed to have museums such as this in our cities ... introducing us to all the art and beauty we'd otherwise never know.
ReplyDeletenot only does perfume give me headaches and make me crazy, I start to sneeze and cough. the coughing is terrible. I would have had to leave the group. when I go to a museum I choose to wander, not follow a doncent unless they want let me. most to.
ReplyDeletemy favorite is the first, the draped dress and the bars of bright colors, they all tie for 1st place. awesome shots
Oh Cecilia, I swear, you still constantly make me wish to visit the City. I'd have to be there a month to see all the super things--- including this visit that you featured today!! I could not be more sincere. If there was a more direct train to take, I would. Seriously.
ReplyDeleteAnd that glass dress...what a different sculpture. What talent the creator has as well.
ReplyDeleteI love them all, but the glass dress is my favorite. Brilliant. I wish I were with you. Wonderful.
ReplyDeleteThank you for joining the Happy Tuesday Blog Hop.
Have a fabulous Happy Tuesday. Love and hugs. ♥
There sure is lots of interesting things to see at that museum. Thanks for taking us along.
ReplyDeleteWhat wonderful art and the Menorah is just gorgeous! I"m not a fan of a person who overdoes their perfume either.
ReplyDeleteWonderful art tour of museum ~ Menorah is beautiful to see ~ thanks,
ReplyDeleteHugs to you Cecilia and Angel Madi ~ ^_^

ReplyDeleteWhat a fun & interesting outing! We were hoping to see some artwork featuring felines!😹
ReplyDeleteA great tour! I love the mosaic and menorah. The 3D art... symmetry?! A lovely way to spend an hour and I would, of course, been looking forward to the box lunch!
ReplyDeleteThanks for taking us along. Mom says ick on the heavy perfume.
ReplyDeleteYou are all making us sophisticated
ReplyDeleteThank you for the tour! These were very fascinating and beautiful pieces.
ReplyDeleteVery nice art. XO
ReplyDeleteWOW, I'm impressed by an Art Museum with real art!
ReplyDeleteI would love to tour that museum and muse awhile. I never smell perfume on people anymore. I think most have gotten a clue about how it can hurt others. Sorry your tour ended that way.
