Be advised: If spiders creep you out, PROCEED WITH CAUTION! 😉
Last night I heard a commotion in the kitchen. What I discovered was quite shocking! The cats were huddled around one of largest spiders I’ve ever seen! 🙀
I don’t like to kill anything, so I quickly grabbed the lid to a Pyrex bowl & covered the spider.
I wrangled the cats into the bedroom, & D was able to safely transfer the humongous, uninvited visitor outside.
May I present to you Dolomedes tenebrosus, known as the dark fishing spider, found in the United States and Canada.
They are found in wooded areas and dwell on trees. It will commonly enter homes in wooded locations.
Apparently, our Vacancy light was on outside! 😹
I must admit, I immediately recognized the beautiful symmetry of “Spidey” & started snapping pictures.
I’m certain “Spidey” was relieved to be rescued from the cats that wanted to “play” with their new friend. 😉
I used the flash on camera so what appears to be extra legs are actually shadows.
To get a proper perspective, this is a picture of dolomedes tenebrosus on someone’s hand! ( NOT MY HAND!)

ReplyDeleteGracious, nearly as large as a mouse! Rather attractive in its own way... well done your three. Hugs and whiskeries, YAM-aunty xxx
I'm not a fan of spiders - that one is HUGE! EEEEEEEK!
ReplyDeleteHugs, Pam
YUK! I saw one in my basement 2-3 weeks back and used the broom on him. I don't mind the little spiders (in my basement) but I draw the line at King Kong!
ReplyDeleteFantastic spider. I don't think I've ever seen that one. I actually like spiders and if they're in the house I put them outside. Someone else who lives here likes to kill them which aggravates me. And the three kitties, I think Precious agrees that pointing them out is more than enough.
ReplyDeleteWhoa, that is a huge spider. I can look at it in a picture no problem but if I had found that in my house I would be freaking out.
ReplyDeleteOh my!! You are BRAVE! (I'm a whimp)
ReplyDeleteThat's an impressive looking spider! It was good of your dad to let it go outside.
ReplyDeleteOMG, if that were in my house I would have to move!!!
ReplyDeleteI 10000% agree with Brian's Home
DeleteI think I will stick with my favorite spiders... Jumping Spiders who have a cute little spidey face. Well done putting it back outside. I looked them up and they are very fascinating spiders. Semi-aquatic! I am surprised we never saw them around the docks in Missouri. The three Fuzz Face's admissions of NOT spider hunters are compelling!
ReplyDeleteWow! that indeed is quite the spider ~ sweet photos of the kitties '~ ^_^
ReplyDeleteHugs to you Cecilia and Angel Madi ^_^
I can look at a picture of a spider (and that one was pretty amazing) but being around one freaks me out. I still yell for someone else to come get it. My hubby is the same as you. He gets a jar or something and traps them in that to take them outside and let them go. *shiver*
ReplyDeleteBravo for knowing - despite your very valid reaction - that there was no reason to kill a spider that does some good in its surroundings.
ReplyDeleteI like spiders, but I definitely wouldn't want one that size living in the house. XO
ReplyDeleteWhat a way cool spider! I do love spiders, but they’re about the only arachnids I do like. Anyway, I’ve never seen one of those here but if I do, I’ll know just to escort it to a tree.
ReplyDeleteOh spiders... hmmmm... yeah... MOL MOL!!!! Happy Sunday!!! 😻🐾😻🐾😻
ReplyDeleteWe have a billion spiders taking over our barn. If they would stay in the rafters I could deal with it. But, walking thru webs gives me the willy's.
ReplyDeleteApplauding you all heartily for seeing to the safety of the big old spider. I find them fascinating, that's not to say that I wouldn't scream blue bloody murder if one suddenly crawled fast over me. I just have to remember they are more scared of me than I am of them, something that was told to me as a little girl. Yeah, right!!! LOL!
