I have never owned a formerly* feral cat or known one; however, I do see lots of outside kitties that I wish lived inside. On my EMW on Tuesday, October 11. I saw this beautiful kitty sitting on a stump. I think he is a Maine Coon. He didn't run from me but once he saw me he hunkered down. He matched his surroundings purrfectly.
* indeed feral cats are not owned and as mentioned cats are never owned just adopted. Both of our cats were adopted as kittens from shelters.
Sorry to quibble, but can one 'own' a feral cat??
ReplyDeleteToodle-oo!
Nobby.
He is a handsome looking kitty.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous. Hope it isn't really a feral, but much loved and just enjoying the outdoors

ReplyDelete...further to Nobby's point of order, I would declare that nobody owns a cat - the cats own us!!! That aside, what a handsome dude you found on you walk. YAM xx
What a beautiful cat the Maine Coon is!
ReplyDeleteI've had many over the years. After trapping, spay or neuter, they were welcome to stay here.
ReplyDeleteOh I always worry about a cat I see outside. Always.
ReplyDeleteWe are always sad to see kitties outside whether they are feral or someone's pet.
ReplyDeleteWe see the occasional cat rummaging through the bushes for birds and chipmunks. But we're pretty sure they belong to some of our neighbors. Daughter Jessy in S. Florida says feral cats are everywhere in her neighborhood. They do a good job keeping the mouse and rat populations down. There are also feral chickens, whom, surprisingly, the cats are terrified of!
ReplyDeleteIf Lady had her way and some pup wouldn't hunt it, Lady would make all the feral cats around us her pets. She sort of wants to keep the mice we are catching. She would totally invite the deer in. It may be good that the Man is around. We wish all the feral cats the best. Lee and Phod
ReplyDeleteSuch a handsome kitty. It breaks my heart to see ferals. I wish all cats had forever homes. XO
ReplyDeleteHe's mighty handsome.....we sure hope he DOES have a home. It's a sometimes cruel world out there without protection or shelter or sometimes a decent meal. Being feral is a tough life.
ReplyDeleteHugs, Teddy
I am hoping Mr. Maine Coon has a home. He has some long hair and when I made the photo BIG he didn't appear to be matted and I would have expected that. He looks very floofy and taken care of but I couldn't see all of him. It makes me very sad to see cats outside at all. It's a rough life. We never see cats outside here where we are and it doesn't take a lot of imagination to figure out why we don't. Lots of predators here. Thank you for this post for National Feral Cat Day.
ReplyDeleteI hope that gorgeous kitty is being taken care of.
ReplyDeleteYes, a most beautiful kitty and it does look like a Maine Coon. Ferals are really so appreciate of any food and water that comes their way.
ReplyDeleteI think ferals own us. If they like us enough they will move in with us.
