We were HAPPY to find the below video
Mom made as we were heading from our wonderful trek to the west, we were camped in Mississippi, we alerted Mom to a pair of pileated woodpeckers right out the back window.
By the time she found her phone, the male was out of sight, but the female posed for us❣️ What a treat!
Notice, she doesn’t have a red mustache.

That was nice to be able to film the woodpecker. We have two here and they seem to like our fencing and have pecked several inches out of one of the boards.
ReplyDeleteWe have them here and I once saw 3 on one tree and 2 other on the second tree. 5 total. but that was the only time I saw them, in the preserve. it was nice of you both to alert mom to look out the window. your loving heads together melted my heart into a puddle of love

The birds have wonderful red hats, you definitely can't miss them if they are around with that bright color.
ReplyDeleteSeeing those great big woodpeckers is terrific. We have some right here in our backyard that like to eat our suet. And they are most welcome to it.

ReplyDeleteThat bird was so close to the camper! Our parents love seeing pileated woodpeckers too. They nest in the woods around our house, but rarely visit our yard, even though we have a big suet feeder they could use.

Pileated woodpeckers are so much fun to watch. We have some regulars here in the Preserve. They are such goofs in the best of ways.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty birds they are, but woodpeckers can really be a nuisance with the noise of their pecking. It seems like the males of most birds get more of the color than the female.

ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing this lovely video. We like woodpeckers most of the time. The only time we don't is when one is pecking on the wood burning stove pipe at daybreak to make the bugs run out from under the flashing, it wakes us up.
