Saturday Symmetry

Morehead City, North Carolina: Head of Woo Woo Harker

Woo Woo was a beloved sea fishing captain. His bronze head, with rope trim and a bell, faces the water, but drunks kept abusing it, so the town has secured the monument behind a seven-foot tall iron fence.

This photo snapped on the dock area in Morehead  City.

  1. A super photo to pick for the theme. I'd like to find out more about this captain fisherman. I have seen other places where they have had to put objects behind a fence because of people doing damage, or carting chips and bits away. A shame they have to do that, isn't it?

The fence definitely has symmetry... I cannot say the monument is particularly pleasing to the eye. The article only very politely brushes past the fact he earned his nickname due to being a womaniser, and other sources remark on his use of lewd 'jokes' when out on the water. So perhaps not a character I would have liked... YAM xx

  3. That was very interesting to read about him. He lived his life doing what he loved, and was loved by so many in his town.

  4. What an awesome statue and it's a shame that a fence had to go around him.

  5. Woo Woo woo woo is what we said to break the chains of abuse on our dog Baby. she curred when we moved our hands, reached out towards her and would not walk out the door until we backed away, tapping her lightly with hand or broom, we would say in a silly sing song voice woo woo woo. it worked.
That has nothing to do with This Woo Woo, and the fence is perfect for symmetry. as for the statue, umm well, not to my taste... I am now sitting here trying to figure out how you got such a great shot without showing the fence

  6. You had a perfectly beautiful day to get the lovely pictures of the statue. I enjoy learning new things like this. I do think also that it's a shame that things have to be fenced off because of vandalism. We're expecting more rain today before it turns cold tonight. Going to a model train show this morning. Happy Saturday

  10. What an interesting monument. It's too bad they had to protect it from idiots making it harder to see it.

  11. Symmetry is good with the fence. Not surprised they had to protect the monument. I was wondering what the WOO WOO was all about. I guess he was more than just a little "frisky"🤭

  13. It's a nice fence, but it's sad it had to be installed at all.
