Nature Friday and FFF reminder

Sunday Morning, May 19, just after the sun rose over all the tall trees I happened to look
to see Mr. Cardinal's brilliant red head all aglow
Before long his brilliant red will fade.
Of course the original also caught my eye due to the reflections of the dining room
light in the windows.

Late afternoon sun peeping through the trees
Photo taken with my iPad.  I did not see the kaleidoscope of colors when I took the
photo.  Professional snappers is this tree acting as a filter?

Most of May was dry as a bone and my garden boy aka Dad of Madi had a horrible sinus infection..
Thankfully, after 2 bottles of antibiotics,  he is well and was able to put some new plants in this pot.
We love the iridescent leaves of the Persian Shield (tall purple).  White Celosia loves the sun.

REMINDER Next Friday is FINAL FICTION FRIDAY, June 28, 2019

  3. I don't see cardinals very often - and a female even less. I live in St. Louis and our baseball team is the Cardinals (also was the football team when I was a kid before being sold to Phoenix) so I kind of feel a special attachment if that makes sense.

The cardinal is one of the most impressive little birds I have ever had the privilege of seeing. As for your sun shot - fabulous!

The trees are not filtering in this case, as the sun is too high - it is actually the glass in the lens itself which is 'fractaling' to create the rainbow rays... and I would warn you that this is not the best thing for any lens to do too regularly, just as it is not good for our eyes to look at the sun. To 'filter' the sun needs to be completely behind the occluding surface.

Did you know that you get lens kits for mobile devices?

  9. I'm glad Dad is much better. Us ladies all need a garden boy :)
Nice pictures. I don't feed the birds because of the bad yard cats.
But, they have plenty of food via our fruit bushes and trees.

    Happy weekend.

  16. Beautiful photos. We only feed hummingbirds in the summer so we rarely see a cardinal until we put the feeders out in the fall.XO

  18. Looks like we've been getting all of your wet weather, and all of our own too! The Great Lakes are over three feet higher than average, and lots of lakeside homes are in trouble any time the wind blows...and it's blowing a lot! I'll be happy to send it all towards you.
