UPDATE on Thursday's MOHs procedure

We arrived at Cary Skin Clinic at 7:00am yesterday.  They took
us back (Bryan stayed to watch..well he stayed in the room) he
was behind Dr. Ingraffea.  So he couldn't see much.
Dr. Ingraffea said he thought he would get it with one layer.
He removed the first layer at 8 am took it to lab.
9 am me came back told me it was clear.
No stitches.  Area is about the size of a nickle.
I don't have to return for post op.  He did tell me
to keep a close eye on my body and if I had a concern
and could not see my dermatologist to call his office
the would work me in quickly.  Squamous is a result
of past sun damage catching with us as we age.
Glad to know I am in with a good practice...cause I have
some other places.  Dr. Ingraffea even sang the first two
lines of Cecilia the song by Simon and Garfunkle to
me.  We both liked him a lot.  Please if you have doubts about
places on your body...check them out!!!

BIG FRIDAY Thank you to Dr. Adam Ingraffea, Leena his PA and
the entire team at Cary Skin Clinic!!!! AND A BIGGER THANK
YOU TO Bryan for his excellent driving skills in the wee dark
hours of the morning as he drove us to Cary

Thankful Thursday for excellent medical personnel

 Thankful Thursday hosted by

Today I'm thankful my (long) 6 week wait is over.

Early January I noticed a wee red bump on my right leg near my knee.  I am thankful my dermatologist was very proactive.  She did a biopsy. Results came back a squamous cell skin cancer. I just had my annual exam by her in October. It was not there.  Today at 7:15 am I'm have MOHs surgery at Cary Skin Clinic.   The area is still quite small (about the size of the end of my index finger) so my hope is the procedure won't take the entire 4 hours of my appointment. I will have a post up on Feline and Nature Friday, March 15 and I hope to give you an update.

My amateur advice is to quickly act on any odd or unusual bump on your body. I have never had any form of skin cancer.

If you aren't familiar with MOHs, here is a short  description.

Mohs surgery is a method for treating skin cancer lesions. During this procedure, the surgeon removes thin layers of skin one layer at a time and examines each layer under a microscope to determine if any cancer remains. This procedure continues until only cancer-free tissue remains.

Happy Tuesday: Read Across America

Thank you to our

Hostess Sandee at Comedy Plus

Auntie HiC

Last week Mom was asked to go to school (where she taught) for Read Across America/Dr. Seuss celebration.  She read to a great group of kindergarteners.

She read one of her favorite books,
Somebody and The Three Blairs, which is a cute “twist” to the classic, Goldilocks and The Three Bears. Mom was surprised (saddened) that some children were not familiar with Goldilocks, soooo, she & the kiddos who knew the fairytale retold it for the others! Always best to get the kiddos involved/interactive before you ask them to settle down & be quiet. 😉

She wished she could show you the kiddos (you have to have parental permisson to show them)...many were dressed up in Dr. Seuss outfits.

The kiddos were great, & Mom loved every minute of her visit. She was truly in her element, especially, considering she was visiting in her
own old classroom!

Oh yeah, another way to calm kiddos is to bribe them with sugar infused treats, that can’t be opened until late afternoon, right before dismissal. 😹😹😹😹

Mom told you after her visit: She loved it, but was ready to leave when her time was over!😹😹

MOM
I was smiling all the way thru this beautiful post.
I loved seeing Mom in her 'element the classroom'.
Mom told me that she actually taught several of the parents of the children in the classroom.  The children who had
MS. Kit for Kindergarten still see her around town and I think she told me one of the is her hair stylist!!!
Thank you very very much for sharing this beautiful post!!!
