Historic Oakwood 2019 Part 1

Last Sunday there was an extra real estate section in the paper.
One particularly caught our eye since it was in Historic Oakwood.
You might remember I had several posts up in December.

Tuesday February 5, 2019 it was 60 degrees and rising so we
hopped in Gracie, (the Highlander) to hopefully see this $2,200,000.00
home/mansion.
I was hoping for better photos but it sits up high on a hill
so I could not get very close.  Let me just say .82 acres is a lot in the city.
It was gorgeous...there was twice as much house behind this front section.
A beautiful stone wall and front entrance.  And the detailed wood work
all around the wrap around porch.
I wanted to walk up those gorgeous stone steps.  I expect to get a
proper showing you would need to come with your financial portfolio.

Then we saw this house which is actually very pretty.
Gargoyles everywhere 2 upside down white trees
hanging by the very pretty front door.  In the side yard,
there was a red door standing with a wreath on it.
In the alley by the house there was a huge inflatable Dinosaur.
Not sure what these folks were up to but Oakwood is all about self expression so all is good.

I have more photos I'll be sharing...

Nature and Funny Feline Friday

Hosted by my Niece Rosy, and her 2 brudders Arty and Jakey HERE

Things are blooming

One of our new neighbors, about 2 blocks away, is a beekeeper. I wish you could have seen the beez buzzing.
Q:What goes zzub, zzub?
A:A bee flying backwards. LOL

Q:Where do bees keep their money?
A:In a honey box

Q: What's more dangerous than being with a fool?
A: Fooling with a bee!

This was good information too.  Last summer a swarm of honey bees
took over my hummingbird feeder.  If that happens this year,
I'll call the bee keeper.

Story #1

We talk to our daughter and son in law every Sunday about 4:30.  Of course I always need to know what my grandcats have been doing.  Sunday February 4th she had has cackling with the latest stories.
About a year ago she bought a new iPad for herself, like all good mom's she gave the old one to the furries and loaded a few cat games on it.  Frisco was immediately infatuated with the game.  Mia purrty much turned up her nose and high tailed it away.  Since Hurricane Florence, their home has been undergoing some repairs/renovation. Everything thing has been topsy turvy so the iPad was put away until last week when the renovations were 95% completed.  She got the iPad out and set it to Frisco's game to keep him entertained/out of her face while she is eating breakfast.
So there she is eating breakfast and Frisco is 200% engrossed in his iPad when all of a sudden she hears,
"Hello you have reached AAA road side assistance, please leave your name and number at the beep".  Well needless to say, this got her attention. When she grabbed the iPad, she saw that Frisco had somehow gotten into
FaceTime  and dialed AAA.  She was laughing so hard it her husband came out of the bedroom to ask what in the world was so funny.
Granddaddy was quite impressed he has no clue how to even turn the iPad on much less use FaceTime
I see the left bubble isn't clear, it says Hey Frisco it is your granny.  I want to confirm a story your Mom
told me.

Story #2
Later that same week in the evening she set the iPad to Frisco's game.  He was once again playing with the iPad on the bar.  His Mom, Dad were sitting in their chairs and Mia was in her Dad's lap.   Frisco seemed to be a wee bit aggravated with the iPad.  His mom got up to see what was wrong.  She called his Dad over to see what was on the iPad.  Frisco had opened an email from last year to their pet sitter.  Frisco was frantically tapping at the screen trying to find his game but instead he was putting all kinds of crazy letters in the reply.  His mom and dad were giggling which woke up the Princess. She was a bit annoyed that Frisco was getting all the attention so she sashays over to check out the commotion.  Now I'll let Mia finish the story.....

Before my daughter gave Frisco the iPad, she 'thought' she turned  everything.  She went back
into the settings to make sure FaceTime and Email were disabled.  She said next thing she knew Frisco would be in the Apple Store ordering new Cat games.

Thankful Thursday Hop

We had lunch with SIL and BIL on January 31, 2019.
SIL made me an apple pie for my Birthday.
We don't exchange b-day gifts...she makes us pies because she is queen of pies
and I make them cornbread because I'm queen of cornbread
YES IT WAS DELICIOUS!!!

Today we join Two  SPOILED CATS
Angel Sammy and Teddy for their poetic pictorial poem.

Here is today's pictorial inspiration

In 2017 Madi wrote an
Ode to her water fountain....

Oh water fountain how I do love you...
Your water glistens in the night even when there is no light,
Your pump sends sweet, fresh water down to the bowl much to my delight...
The water trickles, ripples and bubbles
enticing my inner beastie...
It makes me dream of lovely places to feast.
Oh water fountain thank you for service to me through out the day and night.

What were they thinking

I have a question
*
*
*

and did you like or dislike them?

Anyone who knows me, knows I am a HUGE Ice Cream fan.  There is only
one thing that would make be NOT EAT ice cream....wooden spoons
All through elementary school ice cream was always available in the cafeteria....just like
the above photo.  The only spoon available was the horrid piece of tree bark.
The ice cream was so hard it often broke the fake spoon.  Then you had to wait for it to melt so you could drink it.The thought of sticking it in my mouth made me

GAG

Same thing when the doc would say Ahhh then stick the tongue depressor down your throat!!!

Don't even get me started on the cotton swabs the dentist used.

In my youth, I had my share of oral surgery.  As if that wasn't enough torture, the dentist often
tortured me further by putting cotton swabs in my mouth.  Supposedly to keep the area dry.  I told them the cotton was a mistake in my mouth.   As soon as that swab went in my mouth, the oral juices ran rampant.  Eventually they learned to find another way.

Secret Lives of S,T and MyMe

November Reader's Digest and I happened upon this article,
"The Secret Lives of Letters", by Brooke Nelson.  Mr. Nelson says letters may be small characters, but there are amazing stories behind all 26 alphabet all-stars.
Q and R can be found by clicking here

I want to take this opportunity to thank each of you for your blogs. Often your post put
pictures/memories in "My Mind's Eye" which in turns give me a blog post.
As you know, I'm still working on my own voice here.

Every so often I'll post about things from
My Mind's Eye aka MyMe

Here is my first MyMe
Last Saturday Cleo...one of Angel Madi's kitty friends posted about moving to Wilmington.
My mind's eye immediately wander back to the late 1950's when my paternal Grandmother
had a boarding house/what we now call a Bed and Breakfast on Wrightsville Beach...about 10 miles from Wilmington.
I was the only girl and oldest of 4 grandchildren.
During the summers, cousins and I would spend time with Grandmother.  She lived on the bottom floor of the house and rented out rooms for a few days to several weeks at a time.  If memory serves
me correctly she cooked breakfast and supper for her guests.
The immediate memory I have when I read Cleo's post was about youngest cousin.
No matter how much we all practiced with him, he could not pronounce Wilmington.
It always came out

Wil-toe-ming.

The second MyMe
Fast forward to early 1960's, my parents and I went to Wilmington to visit Grandmother.
I was going to stay for 2 weeks that visit.  When it was time for me to come home, I was going to ride home with Uncle Pete. At the time he had a VW Bug, there was NO I 40 East
the trip to/from Wilmington took 3+ hours bumping along two lane roads.  The VW was so low to the ground every bump felt like my tush was rubbing on the black top. AND the VW had
no air conditioning.
Finally we get close to home when Uncle Pete turns onto a different road.
I politely told him (he was OLD...in his 40's) that he took the wrong turn!!
He turns to me and smiles.  Nope he said while you were with Grandmother your
parents bought and moved into a new house.  That is where I'm taking you.
Lo and behold not only had the moved but they had my room all set up.
Life was so uncomplicated back then.  You could buy a home and move in 2 weeks time.
