Hemlock Bluff Part I: Nature and Feline Friday

Thanks Comedy Plus for hosting

Thanks LLB Gang for hosting

Finally on Monday, March 9, my guy took me on a short road trip that we have been
trying to take FUR EVER..the wet weather kept us away.

We traveled 20 miles west to the Town of Cary to visit

There are two metal leaf sculptures like this on either side of the
entrance to the parking lot

Are you asking what makes Hemlock Bluffs so unique..well I'll tell you what I read in the pamphlet:

A system of north-facing bluffs along Swift Creek supports a population of Eastern Hemlocks and other vegetation which are unusual to this area, thriving more than 200 miles from their typical habitat in the Appalachian Mountains.  The origin of this phenomenon can be traced back ~10,000 years to the last glacial period during an era when average temperatures for this region were significantly cooler than those of today.  The usually mountainous plant communities of Hemlock Bluff are believed to be one of these unique relics of ancient past, surviving in this particular location due to the protective nature of the north-facing bluffs which provide a relatively cool, moist environment for these species to survive our typical NC summers.
All visitors are encouraged to enjoy this beautiful 140 acre
preserve helping us to maintain the fragile landscape by remaining on the trails rather than disturbing the flora and fauna that call Hemlock Bluff home.

Today I'll start sharing some of the beautiful (108) photos I took...and continue to do so on
Nature Fridays, Awww Monday or Happy Tuesday Trail.
Here a few photos I took inside the visitor center.
Note: wildlife cameras have documented that these animals live throughout Hemlock Bluffs
Thankfully we did not see any especially coyote

Hemlock Bluff is also the home of the largest populations and diversities of salamanders in the state, outside of the NC Mountains.

TO BE CONTINUED next week....

Thoroughly Poetic Thursday #11

Today we join Two  SPOILED CATS
Angel Sammy and Teddy for their poetic pictorial poem.

Here is today's inspiration

The Door
**Door Hunter, was a blog in Prague.
I found it shortly after start my blog.
Around her city she traveled snapping
pictures of Doors.
Surely that must be a bore.
Gazing at her pictures of
big ones, small ones, all shapes colors galore.
How unique I thought...maybe there is more
I started paying attention to doors.
My mind's eye suddenly had snippets of life
behind each door.
The door on a structure is like a smile on a face.
Each either says welcome come in or send you
scurrying to another place.

**The blog is no longer active.  However, if you are interested
in see lots of doors, click here

Wordy Wednesday with my Nephews

Dearest Aunty HiC
Mom and  Dad have been clearing limbs and small trees that fell while we were traveling.
Pup thinks he’s Hot Stuff 🔥 because he rides in the back of truck with Mom!

Dearest bloggie pals...I, PUP, wanted you to know
I was  safe in truck... it’s our private driveway.  Mom was hanging on to me. We were going much slower than it appears it was also very windy.
My peeps and I hate to see dogs riding in back of trucks, untethered, speeding down highway.
I, Pup know if I take my ball, someone will eventually throw it, ha!

Mom says she hates leaving me home alone.

Do I look concerned? 😹😹😹

❤️ Kat Your Feline Nephew

MOL MOL MOL Dearest Nephew...OMCs you look like your mind is saying
"Oh what a relief it is to have some me time"!!!!!  That is one content expression...as for Pup he took his tennis ball with him so I bet he will share to scents on there with you.  ..
Hilarious

Lovingly your Aunty HiC

Happy Tuesday

Now I know what love is.....
Love is a four-legged word

Below is picture of an amazing sighting we had at Seaboard Cafe on Saturday. Have you ever seen an African Basenji in the furs?
I have only seen them in dog shows.  They are rather exotic he/she was walking with the humans outside the Cafe.  Photo from Gigi Google but this is the exact one we saw.  They come in tri-colored white, black and copper, brindle and black and white.
They have the cutest curly tail.  Just gorgeous.
Wikipedia says:
The Basenji produces an unusual yodel-like sound (commonly called a "baroo"), due to its unusually shaped larynx.  This trait also gives the Basenji the nickname "barkless dog".

Sparks and Awww Monday

These lamps are all made from paper.
There are 2 walls full of them at our favorite
garden center

Since we are talking about light today, I'm sharing some
photos from February 21, 2020,  our first snow in 426 days
This was taken around 7:30 pm...with the lights on and the snow on the ground
the night skies all of a sudden looked lighter.

Taken on Friday February 21
The sun kissing the tops of the snow covered trees...

The bottom left above gives you an idea of just how tall pine trees are around the 2 story houses across the street from us.  However, they sure do make a pretty picture.
Pine trees don't like heavy wet snow.. the limbs tend to break under the weight.
Over the years we have had at least 25 of these tall pines removed from our yard.

Weather permitting, my guy and I hope to take a short trip to visit Hemlock Bluff
Nature Preserve today.  It is only about 20 miles from us.  Nikki my Nikon has to
well charged batteries.

Sunday Selfie with Pup and Kat

Thursday Morning Pup had his annual check up!!
He received an excellent report, he will have his teeth cleaned (next Wed)...
He loves the techs!

Vet Tech Tara loves me so much she gave Mom permission to let Aunty post her photo.
She has a million dollar smile!!
Ms. Tara is a very special lady. She always loved and  cared for Angels Sassy, Buddy, and helped nurse Dakota back to health when she was rescued. She’s also a ‘Bama fan!

Aunty HiC I detected the Vet scent on my Pup so I stay close by in case he needed me.
Pup:  Kat you are da best brudder in the entire Universe
Kat:  Thanks Pup, I know going to the vet can be exhausting with all those
Lovely Lady Techs kissin' and huggin'
