Where we have lunch on Saturdays

Long time readers might recall my mentioning our most favorite
lunch cafe on Saturdays.  We have been going to Seaboard Cafe on Saturdays
for 20+ years.
It has everything, delicious food, lovely flowers,
friendly folks and TRAINS!!!

Daily Features board in addition to regular menu

FYI: Pickled Carrots are delicious
They have a sign above the door stating: "it is all good"! THAT is TRUE
Saturday I had a scoop of the Apricot-Almond Chicken Salad and Fresh Fruit Yogurt Salad.
Hubby has been getting a BLT all summer the 'maters are good and it is REAL bacon
not turkey bacon (which he gets at home).
The lady standing in the door below is Danielle...she has been there a very long time.

Final Fiction Friday: Kat's Mom, Kit and Nature Friday

Today I'm pawticipating in Final Fiction Friday

Hosted by YAM-Aunty
this is a blog hop link is at the end.

My phrases/words were found on page 87 of

DEWEY: The small town library Cat who Touched the World
by Vicki Myron (library director at Spener, Iowa Public Library) with Bret Witter

line 8:  number of times
line 12:  I met
line 16:  always smiling

How I met my nephew, Kat's Mom

In ~ 2007, I met Kat's Mom.....Kit, through Arctic Camsters in Fairbanks, Alaska.  We became immediate friends. Not too long after our meeting, I discovered she had a blog called, Dog Daze.  I became her blog stalker.  I didn't know a thing about blogging; however, she helped find my way to commenting.  She was mom to Zach and Sassy, two yellow labs and Buddy a black Lab.  She called herself Lab Lady.  I cannot count the number of times she suggested that I might enjoy setting up a blog for Madi.
She was my biggest cheerleader and teacher of all things bloggie.
Kit and Lab Daddy and the 3 Labra-teers traveled across the country to Oregon many times in their wheelie house.  She always sent me beautiful photos from the road.  The humans and the Labra-teers were always smiling. Zach passed about 5 years ago. The dynamic duo Sassy and Buddy, whom you all met via their feline sibling, my Nephew Kat.  Kat graciously agreed to make guest appearances on my blog after
Angel Madi passed about 3 weeks before Sassy passed fall 2018.
Kit I think you know how much
your encouragement turned Madi's life into that of a WWW Rock Star Diva.

****************

As you all know, as of May 2019, my new obsession is quilting.
I made a mini memory quilt in honor of Lab Angels Zach, Sassy and Buddy and
the Golden Retriever, Dakota.
The cream fabric is in memory of Zach and Sassy,
The black fabric is in honor of Buddy.
The all the gold on in the fall fabric and top stitching is in memory of Dakota
The back of the quilt is K9 fabric.

Today I received a precious thank you message from Kat.

Melodious Meow
Adorable from head to toe

So loved for 16 1/2 years
Our guardian Angel
Never ever NO never will we forget

Toto, the mighty mini Dachshund. 1974-1984
Our first family pet and the most comical. Toto taught us how to laugh at ourselves. When I began blogging, many of my posts were about Toto and his antics. He had 9 lives of a cat..he was a cat trapped in a dachshund body. Being vertically challenged he did not like snow or rain

Milky-Way our family's first cat. 1985-1999
Milky was our Thinker...he rarely meowed. In the 14 years he lived with us, I
could probably count his meows on both hands.
Milky was MIA when there were visitors. He did have one true love
other than us, Cali (his human sister's cat she is pictured later in the post).
Milky was 7 when Cali came in to our family at 6 mos of age. He absolutely
adore her. If she came to his bowl when he was eating, he would step aside..
patiently waiting while she inspected his food. He was a gentleman Cat.

My favorite photo of Milky-Way and Cali
I'll never forget the day my daughter brought her to our house to meet Milky.
Cali was literally bouncing off the walls. Milky was in love from the first meow.
She brought out the kitten in him.

Cali, Calico Cornish Rex loved and owned by my daughter for nearly 12 years.
She was undoubtedly the sweetest cat in the world. She had a lot of
health problems but she was always as an angel even with all the poking and
prodding she endured. We all learned how to handle the adversities of life
from Cali.
Harley, Gray and White Cornish Rex my daughter's 2nd cat.
Harley also had  many health problems. He was with
us about 11 years

We feel very lucky all of these adorable pets have left paw prints on our
hearts and  patiently shown us unconditional
love in spite of our human shortcomings.

Tuesday Tale of Thanks from Kat

Dearest Aunty HiC

I’ve been admiring the mini-Buddy our friends in Oregon hand carved.
Grant and Kathy make each carving special, and personalized, like your mini-Madi.
They captured Buddy’s gorgeous black coat, handsome block head, and adorable, goofy expression.

Mini-Buddy joins Mini-Sassy, in memory, and always in our hearts.
Not everyone understands the heartbreak of losing a furry family member. Mom is grateful for those, like you, and our bloggie Furiends, who do.
Love you! 😻

❤️ Kat Your Feline Nephew

Dearest Nephew...
I 1000% agree with you about that our furries are part of the family.   We spend 24 hours a day for their entire lives with our furry family member which is way more than the time we spend with extended human family members.  Our friends out in Oregon are most talented and loving.

Mini Carved Madi sits in a place of honor in our family room.  I tell her good morning and good night every day.

Lovingly your Aunty HiC

Awww Monday and Sparks

Awww Monday as in  Awww Shucks I'm addicted to quilting.
Years ago while admiring a friend's quilts...she warned me... if you ever get started
you won't be able to quit...quilting.  She was correct.

Now I'm building up my supply of quilts for gifts...
you gotta love CATS in my world.

Fall Quilt for US made from pre cut 10" layer cake squares.
On August 15 I showed you a similar quilt I made for our daughter and SIL's 21st anniversary.
I ordered these back in June from Missouri Star Quilting
I put my on spin on it with the Prairie Points (triangle fabric) around the edge
After it was all said and done I had one 10" square remaining.
I hemmed the edges, top stitched the steams of the leaves the sewed it on the quilt
right side of of collage.
