Berries 

1. NC has two state berries, The Blueberry and the Strawberry.  They both gained the distinction of state berries in 2001.

The Scuppernong Grape was designated in 2001 as the State's fruit and was written about by explorers in the 1500's.  The name comes from the Scuppernong River in North Carolina mainly along the coastal plain. It was first mentioned as a "white grape" in a written logbook by the Florentine explorer Giovanni de Verrazzano while exploring the Cape Fear River Valley in 1524.

The scuppernong is a large variety of muscadine a species of grape native to the southern United States. It is usually a greenish or bronze color and is similar in appearance and texture to a white grape, but rounder and larger. First known as the "big white grape". Not everyone  likes to eat them but I do. The skin is tough and usually not eaten.  I gently bite it then suck out the delicious insides.  One of our favorite NC wineries is Duplin Winery.   They make several delicious wines out of Scuppernongs.

As you probably remember, Cali staked her claim on one of the cat igloos soon after she arrived on the hill.
I don’t really mind because I love my bed, but I derive great pleasure in giving her a hard time!  😹

Well, the Polar Express has arrived in north GA! 🥶

This was the forecast for January 19-20.

I often reflect on my days as a homeless kitty, and thank my lucky stars I found my wonderful forever home here on the hill!



My peeps keep me safe, warm, fed, healthy & loved❣️ I wish all kitties & pups were this fortunate. 😿

 This is what our road looks like almost a week after the icy weather event we posted about it here.

Auntie was astounded at the roads. 

I meant to tell your Mom, I recently talked to a friend at the grocery.  Her granddaughter lives in Anchorage.  They haven’t had snow in 3 weeks she was jealous of her grandma's itty bitty snow accumulation. I expect if she saw this video she might be visiting your Mountain. PS Auntie loved the music to the video.  It is one of my favorite country songs.

January 5th I posted this... Blue Marlin Statue 

at Big Rock Landing in Morehead City

While going thru my December folder on January 12, I found this one. I think I was on the other side ot the statue trying to snap the sun thru the opening at the base, but the angle got a great view of the mouth of the statue.
