Spring walk in Downtown Raleigh

While I stayed at home surveying my Kingdom, Mom and Dad took a nice walk in the older part of down town Raleigh.
She made a collage of pretty places the saw on their walk. We hope you enjoy it.

Please click to enlarge..
All of these lovely old homes are within a few blocks of downtown Raleigh. Several are listed on the historic register. The picture under the daffodils is of the old brick used on some of the sidewalks. The picture on bottom left corner of collage is the Governor's Mansion.

Friday Flashback Milky-Way

No Milky-Way did not have an orange nose....he has a sticker on his nose.
No one remembers who put it there, why or what it said. However, the real story here is that
Milky-Way was the most laid back cat any of us have ever known.
I expect if he were living now he would be one of the few cats who would enjoy playing dress up.

MW thanks for the memories.
I don't think I need to tell anyone that MW and Madi are not at all alike.
In fact, when Madi came to live with us we were clueless as to what we were getting ourselves into. After all we had MW for 14.5 years how different could two cats be...the answer is 360 degrees different.
Madi thank you for making everyday an adventure and keeping us young.

How I spent my Saturday Morning Part II,

Part II...continued from Monday, 4/19/10
Saturday started off absolutely delightful, as you saw on yesterday's post.
(and BTW because of yesterday, my demerit board is now empty)!!!
Today I want to tell you about the 2nd half of my Saturday morning.
We are having a very peacefully morning when all of a sudden Mom bellows (I wish she'd use her inside voice) look a BUNNY
Exhibit # 1
A Bunny with a cotton tail too
(big deal) we have lots of bunnies but then she bellows (A G A I N)
OH NO where did he come from run bunny run!!!
Exhibit # 2

A(nother) C A T
in my yard....ok the bunny is one thing but another cat
and one that is brazen enough to sit right there at my window
staring at me with his 'I triple dog dare you to come out here look'.
Well let it be known it got my kitty dander up
As shown in Exhibit #3
The Darn Cat jumped up on my deck.
A very short but explicit video.....that shows exactly how I handle that very stressful situation

We thank the following for providing audio for the video:

Sons of San Joaquin for the music and

God bless Dad (he sneezed at the end). He did not know Mom was making a video!

As you can tell, we fly by the seat of our pants in this house anything goes.

How I spent Saturday morning Part I, I love Mom....

First of I apologize for the sleepy in Madi's eyes...it was early on Saturday
morning and no photo session was planned. As I've mentioned numerous times,
Madi is not a lap cat. She chooses when, where and how she wants to be near us.
At least one day out of a weekend she gets up on the table to help us read the paper. This past Saturday she jumped up as per usual. Settled down on part of the paper I was reading, also as per usual, except this time she gently placed her head on my wrist and tucked one paw under my wrist.....I asked my hubby to quietly go get the flashy beast for me.

I don't know what I did to deserve this, but it is times like this that melt my heart.

Thanks Madi you definitely have the key to my heart.
You just go ahead an be your Diva-self...I don't mind.
Unfortunately the remainder of Madi's Saturday morning was very stressful....
Please check back tomorrow for the rest of the story

Steeple Sunday: Christ Church

The founding of Christ Church (Episcopal) is traditionally dated to the afternoon of August 21, 1821. English born Richard Upjohn, the leading Gothic Revival style church architect in America and founder of the American Institute of Architect originally included the tower in the original plans but the church did not have the funds for it. In 1859 construction of the tower began.
It was completed in 1861 just two months prior to the firing on Fort Sumter that opened the Civil War. Please note the gilded weathercock at the tower's peak. It is a common feature of English country churches. After the end of the Civil War, the locals enjoyed repeating the saying that the rooster atop Christ Church steeple was the only chicken left in Raleigh when General Sherman's troops withdrew from the capital on April 28-29, 1865.
Christ Church, is one of North Carolina's most distinguished and beautiful church buildings. I especially admire the beautiful red tile roof and stone exterior.
Over the years there have been several renovations and additions to Christ Church (which spans several blocks). The most significant ones were in 2000-2001, when Richard Upjohn's English country church, built and furnished for a total of $30,000.00 in the mid 1800's, was meticulously restored at a cost of $3.1 million and in 2008 the Baker Wing to the church was renovated at a cost of $1.3 million. As of 2008 the membership at Christ Church was 2,600.
