Vegetarian Soup recipe clarification:

The term Vegetarian Beans confused many folks.
They are 'baked beans' without pork in them.
In the US,  most canned baked beans have bits of pork in them.
Heinz, Bush's and the Harris Teeter (our grocery store) all have
baked beans labelled Vegetarian Beans.
I just noticed last night in my soup directions I did not mention the cup of water
when you are making it.  I usually add water to the empty tomato cans to get residue then add to bean mix.

Shopping around the World: Vegetarian style

Today we join Angel Sammy, Baby Teddy and their Mom, Pam as they host
SHOPPING AROUND THE WORLD.

This is a tried and true recipe that I have used for 30+ years.
If my old gray mare memory serves me correctly I found it in a Woman's Day Magazine.
The first time I made if for the family there was not a drop left.
The original recipe was prepared on the stove top; however, while I was working everything
was converted to crock pot.
In the early 1990's the grad students Chemistry department at NCSU decided they wanted to
have a community lunch during December.  They asked everyone to bring
a dish from their home country/state to share. What a feast we had too, food from all over
and tons of it.  I took the this vegetarian Bean Soup.  It is so easy to prepare I took all the ingredients to work and my crockpot.  Prepared it that morning and it cooked til lunch.  The lovely
aroma made everyone hungry.  Each year afterwards I was asked to bring it to the lunch.

First here is a picture of me making sure mom has all the ingredients she needs:

First of all let me assure you mom does not cook in the bedroom; however,
it appears I was not cooperative there were not treats with a kitchen shot
so she brought the ingredients to the bed room.
This diva had no idea there was CHEESE involved. MOL

This is a very economical and tasty meal.
lima aka butter beans and kidney beans were were on sale for 33 cents each,
vegetarian "baked" beans (w/o pork bits) were $1.00, tomatoes were 62 cents each,
Cheese was on sale for $2.50 it will also be used for other recipes.
We always have brown sugar  and onions so not cost for them.
Mom normally makes corn bread to go with this.  Original recipe suggested
rye toast.  Either are delicious.

Vegetarian Bean Soup

1 small onion chopped
1 28 oz can crushed tomatoes
1 16 oz vegetarian "baked" beans (with out pork bits) in tomato sauce (I use Bush’s)  do not drain
1 16 oz can butter beans aka lima (or 10 oz frozen) I use canned (rinsed and drained)
1 16 oz red kidney (rinsed and drained)
1 cup of water
1 tablespoon brown light brown sugar
1 tablespoon thyme
Salt and pepper optional
Cheddar Cheese to put on top before serving

Directions for crock pot:
Add onion to crock pot first, then add tomatoes, beans, brown sugar and thyme.  Stir
Cook on high for about 4 hours.  Served topped with cheddar cheese.

Hints: I never substitute the vegetarian beans or butter beans.  I often substitute kidney with navy.  Sometimes I use kidney and navy if I want it thicker.

Makes 4 servings in the above size bowl

Thoroughly Poetic Thursday

Thoroughly Poetic Thursday with Angel Sammy and brudder Teddy

Today's poetry is brought to you by the letter
K

Kitten
When I was a kitten, I had a sister with white mittens.
We shared a cage at the adoption center.
She was mostly Tortie, I was not
I'm told we played and romped and could be quite
sinister.
We had no names and no homes.
We were labeled Kitten L and Kitten M.
Then one day in the middle of May
along came three big people.
They ooooohed and ahhhhed and
discussed our furs and our cuteness.
Later we learned these big people had names and homes
that they wanted to share with two kittens.
As quick as greased lightning we two kittens
got names and homes.
Lots of papers were signed on the dotted lines.
That day in May we became Lucy and Madi
I went home with Mom and Dad!
Lucy went home Mr.G

Mom and I submitted a photo for Angel Sammy and Teddy's
Tuesday teaser 2/21/17.
They sent us this badge!!
This is a view of Juneau, Alaska from the Mt. Roberts Tramway
taken May 2005. Mom says the entire trip was a trip of a lifetime

Tuesday Tales from Mom's past

My Friend the wild and Crazy Mad Snapper has been doing a series of post
on Memories.  I started thinking about some of the memories I have and thought I'd share  them with you...OF COURSE with Madi's permission because she likes it when I
poke fun at myself.

Title:  IS THAT BEER I SMELL

Growing up the only alcohol in my house was rubbing alcohol.  As I approached my teen years, I heard beer was good for your hair; however, I had no way to find out. Then one hot spring day I came home from school. Some men had been there laying a patio. They left a can of  beer on the wall.

I decided what the heck it will be my only opportunity to rinse my hair in beer.
FYI: I used the entire can.... 'cause more is always better RIGHT?
I was a
FYI: You have to be older than dirt to remember this advertisement. I even had the big hair and flipped ends.

OH MY WORD THE SMELL WAS HORRID THERE WAS NOT ENOUGH BRECK SHAMPOO IN TOWN TO GET THAT ODOR OUT OF MY Hair or air freshener to disguise the scent in the air. I was waiting at the door when Mama came home.  She was a sympathetic listener. Then I had to wait for Daddy to get home. He immediately bellowed is that BEER I smell.  Mama tried to explain quickly that I had not been drinking. Finally he let me talk. THEN HE LAUGHED AT ME ASKING IF I LEARNED MY LESSON.
To this day I HATE the smell of beer.
After all that, he called the owner of the company who had been laying the patio to tell them his workers were drinking on the job. I don't have a clue what happened to them.

Welcome Teddy

Today we are joining many of our furiends in Blogville to
Welcome Teddy, baby bro to Angel Sammy aka Two One spoiled Cat.
Teddy was adopted on 2/11/17 from the same Shelter as Sammy adopted
17 years ago.  Purrsonally I think Angel Sammy had his poly dactyl paws
right in the middle of the search too.
I do declare Teddy and Angel Sammy are two handsome Ginger-men

Pizap went a little postal on mom at first (it was operator error
So she got cre8tive using lookalike kitties for both of us, but in the end
all was well!!

We drove to the surprise Welcome location in Mom's cousin, Terry's, 'Vette.

After 3 hours on the road, we arrived at my sis and bil's house to find

Frisco and Mia were napping but you were WOUND up  so we
played a little before heading down to your surprise Welcome location....

Teddy without any further kit kat khat here we go.
N.C. weather has been crazy like a roller coaster lately.  Earlier this week, I checked out the
forecast for today 2/19/17.  I was thrilled to see it is gonna be beach weather.
Good buddy join me here at
I have a straw hat and shades for you and an
itty bitty umbrella drink.  I have fishes and a tube steak on the barbie.
The entire beach is our sandbox (MOL a little feline humor)and the water is warm.
If we are quick and clever, we might catch some live fishes too.
Teddy I was a tad worried the location of my Welcoming post would be overwhelming to a kitty; however, after yesterday's news of your Dad finding you asleep on the shower floor...MOL no worries!!

Teddy if I told you about all the fun you are gonna have here in Blogville, you would think
I had lost my mind.  Get ready, set to roam about cyber space freely visiting with
all your buddies and buddettes who want to say hi to you today.
It is a blog hop...for those not link to the hop click here
I've put together a little bit of advice for you using the word
