UPDATE on Thursday's MOHs procedure
We arrived at Cary Skin Clinic at 7:00am yesterday. They took
us back (Bryan stayed to watch..well he stayed in the room) he
was behind Dr. Ingraffea. So he couldn't see much.
Dr. Ingraffea said he thought he would get it with one layer.
He removed the first layer at 8 am took it to lab.
9 am me came back told me it was clear.
No stitches. Area is about the size of a nickle.
I don't have to return for post op. He did tell me
to keep a close eye on my body and if I had a concern
and could not see my dermatologist to call his office
the would work me in quickly. Squamous is a result
of past sun damage catching with us as we age.
Glad to know I am in with a good practice...cause I have
some other places. Dr. Ingraffea even sang the first two
lines of Cecilia the song by Simon and Garfunkle to
me. We both liked him a lot. Please if you have doubts about
places on your body...check them out!!!

ReplyDeleteThe first picture is a Japanese Magnolia, scientific name Magnolia x Soulangeana.
The second one has more narrow petals and there are many varieties and also in different shades—all are lovely sights in early spring.
So glad that your squamous cell carcinoma did not need any stitches.
Years ago I had one on my right lower inner leg and that had to come out very deep.
We are fortunate however to have these places to be checked for any growth!

ReplyDeleteI love both magnolias and daffodils. With the crazy warm winter we've had, ours will bloom sooner than later, unless we get a sudden deep freeze.

Oh Cecilia- it's good that you're confident with your doctor, and yes, do keep an eye on other spots. Mom says she's gotta keep an eye on dad for such things as he's been a sun worshipper for many years and she's afraid that things like this will start popping up with him. Love Angel Madi's cell reception pix!

ReplyDeleteGlad you got an appt and the spot removed. Around here the dermatologists are booking almost a year out. Mom had her skin check a month or so ago and everything was good. She too said if something weird pops up, they do keep appts open for urgent matters. All the medical check ups are necessary especially as on ages. They are a pain but it is best to find problems early. One of our nose work instructors has had several surgeries to remove skin cancer areas over the past few years. It is always a good reminder to keep an eye on yourself.

I am so happy and thankful that the squamous cell was removed by Dr. Ingraffea! I am happy the SC is gone and in the rear view mirror. And thank you for sharing your experience so we can be aware of what a wise choice Mohs can be.

I swan, I can never see these as magnolia. To me, magnolia is the Grandiflora Magnolia with salad plate sized highly fragrant blooms. Here... those you have shown us are called tulip poplars. Go figure.

ReplyDeleteWe also call those Japanese magnolias, and they are amazing. Flowers first, then leaves, and ours bloomed last month.
