Mom: Our daughter's First Real Christmas

Technically this is her 2nd Christmas; however, since she was only
4 months old on her first Christmas we called 1972 her First Real
ChristmasThis picture is engraved in my mind forever. As you can
see by this picture, she was very surprised. Truly Christmas through the
eyes of a child.
The next picture is what she was looking at that had her so excited
Note we had the Christmas Tree in her playpen to keep the inquisitive
hands of a 16 month old safe.

Favorite Felines Under the Christmas Tree
Madi never got in the tree...probably too undignified for a Diva.
However she was obsessed with bows.  I'm purrty sure kitty slobber
would petrified anything.  Usually the bows were stiff
as a board.

Madi loved sitting on this beautiful tree skirt crocheted by
Dad of Madi's Mom, Margie

Milky-Way was a tree climber. We always put our tree up a few days
 w/o decorations
so that he could get the climbing out of his system.
His first Christmas he was about 6 months old.  We came home one
day to find him about 3/4 of the way up sitting on a limb happy
as a clam.

Nature Friday back to present times at Shelley Lake
Even without leaves this tree's gray limbs against the sky are eye catching.

I love the tall pines full of green needles reflecting in the water.

  4. What a sweet memory of her 1st XMAS. Madi slobber was probably one of the best things about the presents :)

  7. Very sweet and photo filled New Year's Eve post... I love photos. Love seeing your daughter, Madi and Milky-Way. That photo of the tree in M's playpen cracks me up... ingenious! I find beauty in trees undressed for winter.
    Good Morning!

  8. today my chrome books is making me crazy, i just had a REALLY good comment and POOF it is gone. lets see if i can remember part of it. First cat i have heard of sitting calmly in a tree, which means that was a great idea leaving it free of ornaments
Your daughter is so excited and cute and just the right age for a first Chrismtas visit from Santa. my niece was her size and age and got a pad and pen with a waitress set for toddlers. she spent hours taking our orders and pretending to write it down. Order pees? and we had to say fries. we could order nothing else

  9. I had my son in 1970. We were on the same page even back then. I love that shot. Such a wonderful flashback.

Angel Madi was so precious. There is always that one kitty that's the best kitty ever.

  18. Christmas can only be appreciated when there is a child in the house, but puppies and kittens are close.

  19. I love the picture of you daughter! Is she a September baby too? All of the pictures reminded me of sweet times with my kids in the same era.

  20. Lovely to see you share your memories. Your comment about Madi not getting into the tree made me chuckle. We've never had a Christmas tree since having our cat Barry, so we have no idea whether he'd go into it.

  21. I remember putting the tree in the playpen to keep Alex from climbing it! As we had cats when I was a kid, Christmas trees were always wired to the ceiling and I can't remember a cat that did not climb the tree. Madi looks wonderful on the skirt! I LOVE your Memories! Thanks so very much for sharing them!

  22. We loved seeing those old Christmas memories! We hope 2022 is a better year then 2021! (Oh, and Chester wants to know if that's a squirrel nest in that big tree without the leaves.)
