Nature Friday host LLB Gang and Feline Friday host Comedy Plus
On Thursday December 2nd we took a wonder trek up and down the trails that surround the NC Museum of Art. Just as we were coming to the top of a very long hill I spotted something red in a tree.
It was a balloon in the shape of #2. I'm guess an escapee from a 2 year old bday party. Then just to the left, I noticed a rather large vertical white object.
As we walked toward the tree, I saw the bird's head move.
Oh. I put the zoom on my camera and snapped away hoping I was catching
a beautiful critter of nature.
I knew it was a hawk by the shape of the head. When loaded the photos on my computer I was truly amazed at how good the photos from my 10+year old Nikon caught the grand raptor.
I asked Gigi Google for a photo of a hawk with a white chest. At first, I thought it
was a broad tail hawk; however, they don't have feathery legs.. next guess was a red tail hawk. To be sure I sent the photo to
Hootin' Anni my avian expert.
She confirmed it was a red tail hawk
She also added that it was an adult. Juveniles do not have feathers on their legs.

There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that Angel Madi
also thought the same thing. We became accustomed to her look of disapproval and at the same time very thankful she forgave our huMANness.
Having thumbs was our saving grace.
what a funny decoration, at least it is a decoration LOL... the hawk is beautiful... what a fab moment you caught with your cam!!!
ReplyDeleteSuper photos of the red tail hawk. Although we are wondering where is his red tail??
ReplyDeleteWhat a great catch! Oh, he is beautiful.

ReplyDeleteAnnie always knows and this one is a beauty. love the Madi memories and the cartoon... still giggling over forgiving of the humanness..
ReplyDeleteLove the hawk. We had a sparrow hawk on our fence this week. I was taking out the garbage and he just sat there and looked at me. Beautiful hawk.
ReplyDeleteLove the funny. I'm sure that's just what cats think of us.
Thank you for joining the Feline Friday Blog Hop.
Have a purrfect Feline Friday and weekend. Big hug, my friend. ♥
That hawk is beautiful! The cartoon was a fun one too.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great shot of the hawk! We're always looking around for critters and birds. With the birds it's also good to keep your ears open. I often hear the birds before I see them. That comic is cracking us up, too. Dogs don't have that same attitude as cats but we also don't like to give up a cushy spot either.
ReplyDeletecod don't let on to mackerull or dai$y I said this; nice capture, he is a handsome boy :) ♥♥
ReplyDeleteNice shot even though I despise them because they eat song birds. XO
ReplyDeleteGreat photo!!! He is stunning!!!
ReplyDeletePickles is one of Mom's favorite cartoons.

What a handsome Red Tailed Hawk!!! Great capture C!
ReplyDeleteThat is a stunning picture.
ReplyDeleteWe love hawks here at my house. One of my human brothers in the next town is such a fancier he has some outstanding photos of them. Yours is too. SO glad you had the Nikon handy~ I thought Coopers Hawk..but who ever it is...beautiful. Know how my mom spots them from farther away? The always sit with their shoulders straight up and out and in a military-like posture. What a capture you got there! Gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos of the hawk. I was unsure about it being a red tailed hawk, so right clicked to search on google and it came up as a Coopers Hawk.
ReplyDeleteDad says he saw one of those on a fence post the other morning right up the driveway. That cartoon is a hoot!
