Nature Final Fiction and Feline Friday

Nature Friday host LLB Gang  and Feline Friday  host Comedy Plus

Donated to Raleigh by the Wooten Family

Year 1996 | Acres 20.5
Toss a Frisbee, picnic in the lawn, watch the wildlife, and enjoy the day in the park. This 21-acre site was donated by the Wooten family in 1996 for the use of the citizens of Raleigh as a park and future greenway connection. The first phase of the 2015 Wooten Meadow Master Plan was completed in early 2022.
Set along Hare Snipe Creek*, Wooten Meadow Park has looping paved and grassy pathways, open lawn areas, natural meadows, and wetlands and is a habitat for a variety of plant and animal species. Further back in the park is a successional forest of **loblolly pines and hardwood trees.

The remainder of the photos were taken by me on October 18, 2022

Here is the rest of the story.  In 2015 they began this project.  However, what they don't mention is that originally the back field was a free public soccer field. By Free, I mean no reservations required.  The games were by word of mouth, kind of unorganized. 95% of the soccer fields in our city are used only by CASL, Capital Area Soccer League reservation only.  I don't know if the soccer field was temporary

It was located at the very back of this photo toward the groove of trees in the center.  Beyond those trees is a residential neighborhood.  In the Fall and Winter when many of the homes could see the field.  Many started complaining to the city about seeing soccer players using the area as a restroom.  What was a beautiful view became not so beautiful and had an  unpleasant odor.

After about a year of this bad behavior, the city plowed up the field.  Gradually landscaping and meandering trails were added. It is a beautiful flat trail. I have been nursing a Medial Collateral Ligament strain in my right knee for several months. Walking on flat surfaces is good therapy. However, walking up or down hills is not on my to do list for a while.

Depending on the time of day you can have full shade or nearly full sun.  It is about 3 blocks from our home.  There are still no 'facilities' but there are benches along the trails and shaded picnic tables.  This tranquil park was completed in May 2022

Thursday October 20, we went back to take the complete trail.  We were happy to see the City landscapers out watering the plants.

We discovered there was a natural trail that loops around we found *Hare Snipe Creek top left and the  **loblolly pines and hard woods bottom left and right

The entire trail including the loop thru the natural area took 17 minutes but it is such a pleasant trail I'd probably walk several loops.

There are several benches

  1. It's always good to learn of wealthy families donating land for public good. Green spaces in urban areas are so precious, as we all learned during the pandemic. And flat trails are much appreciated by those who for whatever reason can't do hills. (When Gail's relatives were staying in Torridon last week, Gail showed them the one and only flat walk in the area, as Kate has heart problem and breathing difficulties. She was thrilled to complete the mile and a half circuit).
    Cheers! Gail.

  2. we are glad the park is now a good place for all... without odor....that's our horror too, if we walk along the bike trail..... one bomb and one mine after another... sigh...

  3. Hari OM
What a wonderful space! Thank you for sharing that with us this FFF, Miss C!!! (And having never heard of Loblolly pines, I spent a happy fifteen minutes reading up on them... ) YAM xx

  4. What a pretty park with nice trails. It would be a fun place for a shorter walk.

  5. it is a beautiful place and much like our Bray park here. our park has 3 rest rooms, it is 60 acres and so beautiful like this one. it is great it is so close to your home. loved seeing our girl Madi, she did love her holidays.

  6. That looks like a great park. We love the Madi photos especially the one with the candy corn!

  7. That was a very enjoyable blog...they all are. I love coming to visit here. Wish I could pop in thru the tunnel. Seriously. And I love how many of the places you visit seem to have paved walkways. This is good for those of us who have had complicated heart surgery; and as another reader mentioned, can't much "do" hills any more. I'm fine on flat. Hey, that oughta be a saying! Going to Charlotte and going uptown which is always a treat guarantees flat! Good thing too since I HAVE to take a zillion pictures of the skyscrapers! are da bomb in your halloween pics. I love Wonder Woman, and there you are!

  8. What a beautiful park and we love Madi's flash backs - especially the Pink Lady!

  9. What a lovely place for folks to enjoy. A great place for my morning walks.

Awww on Madi. So precious. A wonderful flashback.

Thank you for joining the Feline Friday Blog Hop.

Have a purrfect Feline Friday and weekend. Big hug. ♥

  10. What a great place for a gentle walk. We love the Madi Halloween costume flash backs, too.

  11. What a wonderful thing to do giving land to become a park! And awwww on Madi in her costume!

  12. What a cool park! Free places to play are are few and far betweeen. Its too bad that port-a-potties could not have been made available so the neighbors did not have an odorous "experience". It is nice to have a pace to walk that does not have too many hills. I have had balance issues and find that hills and rough paths are a no-no. I am glad that Midway is so flat. Great shots of Madi in her Halloween costumes! Keep being awesome! Barb and Mom

  13. Wow...what a gorgeous park. I could wander around it for hours!

It's always nice to see Angel Madi, especially when in costume!

  14. Hugs to Angel Madi ~ She makes an adorable little witch and what a wonderful array of autumn nature photos ~ Xo

Wishing you good health, laughter and love in your days ~

  16. That's a very pretty place with a very interesting story of its own. Love those fun flashbacks.

  17. Looks like a fine spot to go for a walk. I have no doubt that I would enjoy it greatly.

Please leave a meow or bark for Angel Madi...her assistant (aka Mom) will respond in a timely fashion. =^..^=
