Today it is
Flower Friday...
I missed everyone looking forward to catching up with you and your antics.
We had a nice break and visited some friends too.
Of course there are photos that will be shared.
I took 167 photos. What's that you want to see them all? Well of course I'll share
We were visiting my childhood friend and her husband. They are retired teachers.
He has a small vineyard in which he grows native Muscadine grapes. It is a pick your own vineyard and sometimes he sales to wineries.
The photos in this collage were taken from their sunroom that overlooks the vineyard.
I loved the succulent arrangements.
And I especially loved the vineyard cat.......

Today's collage shows the octagonal window
on the left and the lovely reflection it makes on the chair.
Angel Madi loved sitting here this time of year.
The GRITS pillow you've seen but just in case some haven't
GRITS is an abbreviation for
Girls Raised In The South.
That surely describes me. And I also love Grits.
As many of you might remember, I retied from N. C. State University.
I loved my job working with graduate students and scholars from all over this great big world.
I cannot tell you how many times I was asked about Grits...the hot cereal.
Finally I started keeping a box of instant cheddar cheese grits in my cabinet and butter in my fridge.
When asked, I gladly answered and offered to make some for them.
I found most of those who asked genuinely wanted to know and were happy to taste them.
Really who doesn't like the taste of cheddar cheese and butter..yes GRITS have to have butter!!
What a beautiful yard! I am just now starting to get into succulents as we have a nice window box in our new kitchen. Love the happy yellow mums too!
ReplyDeleteI am a daughter of a GRIT...and was brought up eating grits(always with lots of butter, salt and pepper)!!
xoxo
Beth,
Rosy, Jakey & Arty too!
Hari Om
ReplyDeletecornmeal is a staple in Africa (as is cassava) and I wonder if this dish arrived with the slaves? In OZ, creamed corn is a fave - variation on the theme!
LOVE the sunchair images!!! YAM xx
Your friends yard and the distant vineyard - PERFECT photo of a beautiful place indeed. I'm sure you enjoyed your visit. We are a "grits" family here (although I've not had them my humans love them).....and OF COURSE you have to have lotsa butter on them! LOTS!
ReplyDeleteHugs, Teddy
Mom loves grits with butter, salt and pepper and a fried egg on the top!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun place to visit. Did you get to take home lots of grapes?? What a nice picture of their place. You all have a great day.
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a lovely place.
ReplyDeleteI always thought Grits was like porridge and have seen it in the breakfast buffet when we have been on cruises. It has never appealed to me, but I just googled butter cheese grits and that sounds MUCH tastier.
Love grits with buttah! The vineyard is gorgeous and the sunroom looks delightful. I miss ours more than I can say! A beautiful place to get away for R&R! Welcome back!
ReplyDeleteAnything tastes better with butter. With the exception of ice cream perhaps!
ReplyDeleteMara from NI
Charlie has a lot of territory to supervise! Yep, grits are popular here too!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely place to visit and relax for a bit. It sounds like you had a great time.
ReplyDeleteGlad you had some time and a visit with your friends. I've been thinking about you lots and hoping you are doing OK. I'm sure you are missing Madi lots!
ReplyDeleteI have only had grits a few times but only up here in IL. I wonder if we are making them right up here. Hopefully, I can try them in the south some time.
since I was raised on grits, instant grits is not the way to get someone to eat grits. only cooked for 30 minutes or more are they the delish of the south. I do eat the instant because it is easy, but the other is best. I love the grits collage, beautiful window and sun and shadows and sweet Madi in her sunbeam... that room the plant photos are in is what I would love to have on my house. daddy grew scuppernong but I love these grapes to
ReplyDeleteI love grits my dad made them for us
ReplyDeleteevery morning before school with sunny side up eggs.
But we also got a spoonful of Geritol.
My dad was from Ponce De Leon FL.

I remember my first taste of grits at a Waffle House when traveling south to Florida from Michigan on Spring Break. Loved them!
ReplyDeleteYour friends' sunroom is just lovely. Mom has a small pot of real succulents on the deck, and she is worried they won't survive the winter outside even though the nursery says they should be fine. We don't have a good spot inside for them to get sunshine, but we will find a way.
ReplyDeleteMom has never had grits, and she cannot bear to have oatmeal anywhere in her mouth:) BOL. But she does love REAL butter:)
Woos - Lightning, Misty, and Timber
What a great sun room! And I bet their grapes would make fabulishious jelly! Madi, darling, I bet your human sees you in that chair out of the corner of her eye.

Mom actually LOVES grits and she was born in New Jersey!!!
ReplyDeleteWe love that sunroom and were happy to see our favorite Diva!!
Hugs, Madi's guy Raz and The Florida Furkids
Gorgeous property....but so much grass. SHE always thinks of mowing when there are great expanses of grass. Saw a 'cook-off' recently featuring grits. Was quite surprised as grits was always a sort of snickered-at southern food. However, they are great with butter and salt and pepper.
ReplyDeleteHow nice to have a getaway and visit good friends, they have a beautiful place. We hope you are doing OK
ReplyDeletepug hugs

Glad you had a nice trip. I have never had grits, but they sound good. XO
ReplyDeleteThat really is a great picture of the octagonal window, the chair and of course Madi.
ReplyDeleteI discovered instant grits while still living in PA. I always fixed them with salt and butter, and was shocked to hear some folks (from the North) actually ate them with sugar and milk, LOL. Now I don't eat them because, sadly, so much corn is GMO.
Do you know the mom has never had grits? She’s definitely a northern girl.
ReplyDeleteOh, that sunroom is FABulous! Ma has never had grits ~ when she was in OK, her cousins said they would make some for her, butts they never did. Lots of fried okra, butts no grits. So Ma can't say weather she likes them or not. I thinks your Moms should make some for all of Blogville! BOL!!!
ReplyDeleteKisses,
Ruby ♥
Welcome back!!! I love the sunroom... it's gorgeous. I'm glad that you spent time with Charlie!!! Neither of us is from the south but we love grits. But here's where we probably have the tradition wrong - we have them for dinner (with stir fried veggies etc). I have the feeling that you will be frowning when you read that!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely getaway! My bio describes me as GRITS! I like mine with butter and a dash of sugar. ♥
ReplyDeleteGrits most definitely have to have butter and cheese.
