Thought you might be interested in this - I was on our deck late yesterday and saw this. I thought it was a piece of tree bark and started to reach for it and then I saw the eyes. I instead took a picture - Al researched it - it’s an Eastern Eyed Click Beetle!!! The amazing things we see in our backyard - now that we are home more to observe 😂
As I told Janice I have never in my life seen a bug like this.
The harmless Eastern-eyed Click Beetle's large eye spots simultaneously distract and mesmerize. This black and white species of Click Beetle has two large black 'eye spots' on its pronotum. Each eyespot is surrounded by a thick, white ring, making the pair very conspicuous.

Wow, that lizard! Did he accidentally come to rest in a pool of blue paint?
ReplyDeleteAnd the wee beetle is indeed fascinating. I'd heard of false eyelashes, but false eyes are something else altogether!
Thanks for a great Nature Friday post.
Toodle pip!
Bertie.

Hey Cecilia, somebody posted on my Facebook that he is a Male Eastern Fence Lizard. Thanks for using my pictures. Hope everybody enjoyed them. Ramona
ReplyDeleteLOL! Great feline funny. My mom can't stand lizards or snakes, so we just passed over those photos.
ReplyDeleteLove the lizard's blue tummy and that click beetle - yikes!
ReplyDeleteWe have a lot of small lizards where we live. You can't walk down the sidewalk in our neighborhood without having them run every which way! I love them! That is a handsome lizard and the beetle is very interesting!
ReplyDeleteI think it is a Western Fence lizard, also known as a Blue Belly. It is usually found in Arizona, California, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington, Northern Mexico, and the surrounding area. The Eastern Fence is usually found around the East Coast.
ReplyDeleteThat lizard sure has a pretty belly. Too bad all that color hides underneath him. Those beetles sure look cool.
ReplyDeleteWow that lizard is fabulous. Ours are really dull next to that one.
ReplyDeleteThe Florida Furkids
We have little lizards similar to that, but not the blue belly. I find them most cute and we don't mess with them either. They bring good luck if you ask me.
ReplyDeleteThank you for joining the Feline Friday Blog Hop.
Have a purrfect Feline Friday and weekend. Big hug honey. ♥
That's a Mini-Godzilla lizard! That bug sure is a weird looking thing.
ReplyDeleteGosh, we don't get lizards here, but we do get praying mantises once in awhile; they are fascinating.
ReplyDeleteWowsers, what pawsome pics from Ramona and Janice. We love the lizard colors and what an unique buggle!!

We love lizards...well, SHE does. But for some reason they don't come in our gardens...
ReplyDeleteWe love to chase the lizards in our rocks, but they sure are fast. As for that bug, it is pretty ugly. Mom would have screamed if she picked it up thinking it was a piece of bark.
ReplyDeleteWoos, Lightning and Timber
I used to catch these Blue Belly lizards! I think that is what it is! Have a lovely day!
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures of the Lizard and the bug. That Lizard is great with it's blue belly. Hope you have a wonderful weekend.
ReplyDeleteThat is a cool lizard, I like his blue. XO
ReplyDeleteI have never seen a beetle like that. Kind of freaky.
ReplyDeleteI agree that beetle is freaky looking, but I think most bugs are. That poor lizard wouldn't stand a chance around here with my two lizard hunters.
ReplyDeleteThat lizard is so cool!!! we get all sort of weird bugs here
ReplyDeletehugs
Mabel Hilda
Pierre would lose his mind over such a lizard!!
