Awww Monday and Sparks

Wednesday, March 10...I step out onto our front porch...to my amazement I saw a bird land
in my neighbors front yard then fly up into a tree. I grabbed my camera. I slowly walked down my driveway clicking as I walked.  It was a beautiful hawk.  I am not at all an expert at bird ID.
I think it is a Red Shouldered Hawk

Description in my Birds of  the Carolinas and North America:  Barred rusty underparts, reddish wing linings and shoulders tail broadly banded with black.  They have a varied diet but squirrels are at the top of their list and we do have plenty of squirrels.

Keep your eyes opened and you camera handy you never know what you will see on your own street.

  5. Lovely photos of the hawk. The hawks here, particularly the sparrow hawks take the smaller birds so are not as welcome.

  7. What a gorgeous hawk! Unfortunately, my reading is not up to the quality of your photography ... somehow, I read, "Barred rusty underpants." Hahaha.

  8. love the quote, do not like hawks, we have many of them and they eat all our birds and squrrels. doesn't matter it is food chain, they sit in our tree and rip the birds to pieces, mostly the doves. the feathers and bones rain down and scatter in the yard. i wish they would eat somewhere else.

  19. We see a lot of hawks in our woods here - it's because we have TONS of squirrels and chipmunks. I always worry when I see one die out of a tree to the ground.....I know they found dinner!!
