Wordless Wednesday from our back porch..

where I spent many mornings, after my appendectomy, *resting on my laurels.  Happy to say my recovery has progressed nicely too.

I finally remembered to look of the origin of this *expression.

The phrase/idiom 'Resting on your laurels' dates back to ancient Greek and Roman traditions where victorious Olympians or generals wore crowns made of laurel wreaths as symbols of victory, success and status.

  6. I think I knew about the "laurels on the head" ... but did they "sit" on them? Might they not have been itchy or prickly? Always pictured them putting their you-know-whats on velvet pillows! (Doubt you sat on "laurels" after your recent surgery
did you ... wasn't a soft cushy pillow more comfy?) ... Ah well, happy-hump-day!

  13. It looks like a lovely shady place to recuperate! Glad you are doing so well. Is it too soon to be thinking about Seaboard on Saturday. We need to find a place like Seaboard that we can trust during this covid thing and enjoy some outside dining!

  20. Nice rod iron gates. I've been thinking about rod iron for banisters and railings for my front stoop.
