Poetic Thursday hosted by our pals Teddy and Angel Sammy
Here is today's inspiration
A special night has arrived
everyone is dressed to the nines
Ladies dolled from head to toe,
Guys too.
I can nearly hear the crinolines
swishing as they dance.
It is time to practice the manners
they learned in
*Cotillion Class
*The main purpose of a cotillion is to teach respectful manners to young people so they can go out into society and thrive.

ReplyDeleteOne wonders if it holds the weight and effect it once did... YAM xx
yes... that was the noise.... thrilling and so woohoo!!!! this kind of countdown before a rocket starts..
ReplyDeletegood job, now I am wondering if the still have cotillion classes and i went out to ask GiGi and she said yes and even some schools have it. on TV it looks like gloves are making a comeback but they are NOT The gloves of my youth. I celebrated when gloves, hats were no long in. the classes we need now are how to dress and act when shopping in Walmart.
ReplyDeleteIf they don't have those classes, they need to implement them....
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine that "young people" could get away from their phones long enough to even dance at a prom. I can see everybody sitting at the tables eyes locked on their phones. I know, I have a negative attitude with respect to our relationship with mobile phones. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteThe younger generation has no clue what they are missing.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great poem for that picture and it must have brought back memories for you.
ReplyDeleteI love that poem. And Cecelia I never did know the meaning of a Cotillion! This brought memories and wishes that things hadn't devolved the way they have.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful picture, there is something so beautiful about formal dances!
ReplyDeleteI had to giggle at Sandra's comment...and agree, I see the most interesting outfits at Walmart, and most of them need to NOT be worn out of the house!
hugs,
Beth
Nice poem. We had no cotilion in the New England. It would have been nice. :) XO
ReplyDeleteThat was good and it would really be good to bring back the much needed Cotillion Classes!
ReplyDeleteI had never heard of Cotillion Classes. We didn't have proms either although I think some schools and colleges do now.
ReplyDeleteToo bad so many traditions like this have gone away.
ReplyDeleteDid you see that front couple kissing! Oooo, scandalous! (At least then, it was.) Great poem, too!!
ReplyDeleteCotillon class! I can tell it's a southern poem.
ReplyDeleteProm night was a big deal......and everyone looks mighty fine in tuxes and prom dresses - these days you never know what you're liable to see when there are posted photos of school dances! EEEK!
ReplyDeleteHugs, Pam
