Dearest Cecilia, We used to showcase thousands of old Heritage—Fragrant daffodils and I'd ordered the early–mid–and late season bloomers for enjoying them to a maximum. Sadly the competition of big trees have made them disappear... Miss their sweetness! it was such a special ritual for bringing them inside, in vases for enjoying their fragrance... Enjoy yours! Hugs, Mariette
mothers yard was always full of jonquils which are much like daffodils, I did pop out to ask Gigi if they are the same and no they are not. I thought they were. which ever or whatever they are gorgeous. Gigi said jonquils have heavier perfume than daffodils. I don't remeber them having a scent. do yours have scent?
I have always liked the yellow daffodils with the orange center. I had some decades ago. These really cheer up my morning, but unbelievably with our cold weather in the snow that we just had, I see that my dwarf yellow daffodils in one or two places have some buds coming up already.
I do miss the early blooms of spring (no longer having a yard) ... but seems astounding to me that "spring flowers", as lovely as they are, are popping out near February's end.
How wonderful that you have daffodils blooming already! We are getting near record temps in the 60's this week and then after a brief dip to normal temps we will rollercoaster back up to near 60 again. With weather like that we might start seeing our daffodils coming up early.
Daffodils are definitely harbingers of Spring. P. Phil says no more winter. The Farmers Almanac says a harsh winter. I sure hope that big rodent is right.
Please leave a meow or bark for Angel Madi...her assistant (aka Mom) will respond in a timely fashion. =^..^= Life is short, spend it with those who make you laugh “Worry never robs tomorrow of its sorrow, it only saps today of its joy.” (Leo F. Ooh how super to see your daffodils. Ours in Aberdeen are not out yet.
ReplyDeleteWe love "... yellow trumpets of spring".

We have had such a mild winter that ours have flowered and gone over now. The wild ones in the fields are much later and starting to get their buds.
ReplyDeleteooh they are there... we love them and we agree they are like trumpets...... they should stay with us for the whole year...

ReplyDeleteWe think of them at Easter time, more in April, but I'm sure they pop up earlier when you are more south.
