ReplyDeleteHaving the bell tower separate is actually a very ancient practice and most medieval churches would have had this arrangement originally. The Chichester cathedral I visited last year still has its standing. That entry you show is indeed magnificent! YAM xx
That is a good looking church, but it is the bell tower that particularly catches my eye.
ReplyDeletethat entrance is spectacular and those are the thinnest brick posts I have ever seen. to me what makes it so beautiful is the glass windows on either side. awesome shots of it. the bell tower is very similar to one church we have here, the church is nothing like this one but has a tower with bells like this... really a beautiful building. you will love my cousins new home that is posted today.. red brick all the way

Having a steeple separate, as e.g. in Italy where we worked and lived, is due to earthquake danger.

ReplyDeleteIf you like red brick then you would love Nottingham, the town where I grew up.
I used to think red brick was boring, because in the English Midlands that's what almost all the buildings are constructed from. Now I live in the 'Granite City' and seeing red brick makes me feel nostalgic!
