I'll make this short about my experience cricket hunting

Way back 53 years when Marlu was an itty bitty infant, I had just gotten her back to sleep from a 2 am feeding.   I get in bed and lo and behold Jimny Cricket starts singing...and it was loud. I quietly tip toed around trying to find it...finally found the sound most likely coming from the linen closet which was across from Marlu's room. Those things jump and knew actually slaying it was not going happen. So I got a jar in hopes of trapping it til morning. Well of course it jumped out of the linen closet heading toward Marlu's room. I am on all fours chasing that dag blasted cricket with the jar which was was making a thump thump on the carpet. My tushie is facing our bedroom,
the thump thump woke Bryan up he is giggling 'cause he knows what I'm doing. Thankful dang cricket was trapped, Marlu did not wake up and that is my hunting story...

Flash back of Madi January 31, 2016 with her version of what she would have done if she had been
living with us 53 years ago.
Feline Friday

Nature Friday

When it comes to all things creepy and crawly things, I Madison D. Cat, am a great hunter
I will hunt and hunt all the day/night long. HOWEVER, ONCE I HAVE LOCATED SAID CREEPY CRAWLY BUG, I have done my job.  I always YES always,
holler to the top of my lungs...Mom come and get it while giggling, 'cause I know Mom hates bugs, and Mom would have then hollered to the top of her lungs for Dad neither of us ladies do B U G S.

As you can see from the below info on crickets domestic cats often eat crickets. I can assure a Madison D. Cat would never ever NO never stoop so low as to eat a cricket.
Why do crickets make noise at night?
In most cricket species, the males chirp to attract a female. And they mostly sing at night to help avoid predators. But Karim Vahed says some studies have shown that predators like domestic house cats follow the chirps of the crickets to find and eat them!

  1. In Japan crickets are considered good luck, & are often kept as pets. During my cultural exchange program to Japan my home-stay family had several singing crickets in cages. I thought it was sweet until they prepared fried crickets for dinner one evening! 🙀

    1. I don't think I could eat the fried crickets after thinking they were pets!

  2. I laughed at the image in my mind of you crawling around after that cricket! We get grasshoppers rather than crickets, and Eric thought they were a delicacy and would spend hours catching and crunching them. That is a lovely badge in honour of Gail.

  4. You really had us laughing at your cricket story and Molly was just like you, Madi. She let me know when bugs were inside the house.

  5. That is a beautiful badge at the beginning of your post. And I love the picture of you in Jiminy Cricket on the floor. I'm laughing. I had a cat many many years ago named Cincinnati and she ate crickets whenever she can get them. That's before I got smart and knew not to let my cats outside again.

  6. We have never heard what actually happened with Gail. It is still shocking that she was suddenly gone as we enjoyed her activity and her posts about it all. So sad to lose her and we don't know why. Happy Friday!

  9. thank you for the badges, I saved it. I would have been more than giggling at the site Brian saw.. Crickets make me crazy if they get in the house. and they are hard to catch or kill, they seem to know when we get close and quit the noise, I will not call it singing. ha ha

  10. We love both your cricket stories. There are lots of crickets around our home in the warm weather. They rarely make their way inside but when we go out to do our business at night they can be very loud.

  11. 50 years ago you would of found me crawling around looking for the darn cricket. I never found one. I think they were in the wall. That was so aggravating!

  14. This is a great post, loved the memory of you trying to catch the cricket and how interesting it's only the male we hear chirping. Living and learning here and sending hugs for a great weekend.

  15. We LOVE your February header - so pretty and full of love. You had all of us giggling over your cricket story. Timber is the critter/bug hunter here. He is great at snagging a fly in the window. Better than a fly swatter:)

  17. Funny story. I recently saw a fake cricket with a remote to make sound. I am thinking of getting for my great niece to torture her parents. :) XO

  18. That tushie story is so hilarious I laughed all the way through! Crickets are good luck in Asian culture - we have a brass cricket by our fireplace - fortunately nobody has to try and catch it !!!

    Hugs, Pam

  19. What a story! You would have needed our Charismatic Enigma SissyCat, she eats any bug she finds and is especially fond of damselflies.

Thank you for linking up with Feline Friday!

  20. Decades ago my parents, my husband, and I went out for an early morning fishing trip. A cricket in our rented room had been annoying, but not terribly, then it stopped singing as we prepared to leave pre-dawn. Something felt odd inside my left boat shoe (I'm sure you know where this is going...). I'm so glad we stopped to use the public bathroom before heading out. Yuck. lol Be well!
