Today is Poetic Thursday hosted by our pals Teddy and Angel Sammy at Two Spoiled Cats
#195
Today would have been my parent's 71st anniversary.
My biological father died when I was 2 1/2 years old.
My biological father died when I was 2 1/2 years old.
My mom and dad were married January 16, 1954, nine days after my 5th birthday.
This is the story I was told about how they met.

Each afternoon he watched as she walked to work
at Montgomery Wards where she worked on Saturdays.
(they always referred to it a Monkey Wards, no clue why)

They lived on the same street blocks apart. Never met
He had just returned from three years in the Army.
He loved how her pony tail bounced and swayed.
Her route took her through a park.
One day he decided to follow her (I accused him of stalking her).
As she walked under a tree,
A bird had a pooping SPREE.
It landed smack on her ponytail.
However, being the gentleman that he was
He never admitted that this spree gave him glee.
It was time to introduce himself, he told her what had happened
offered her his hankie...and the rest as they say was history
This is a photo of my parents at our daughter and son in law's wedding August 15, 1998
that is wonderful and we love the photo... what a good memory... and how great that we have so much memories together...
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, heartwarming with a touch of silly. What a charming tale and extra special memories. A beautiful Thankful indeed, Cecilia.
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet story and such a gentleman to tell her what happened and offer his hankie. I remember the store being called Monkey Wards.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful story and you had two very handsome/beautiful parents, Cecilia!

ReplyDelete💖 adorable! YAM xx
What a great story! We bought some good furniture at Montomery Wards back in the early 90's but then they were gone, along with so many other stores we went to for things often. Time changes everything.
ReplyDeleteI like your introduction to the word thankful. What a few beautiful picture of your mother and your father and obviously this man came along at the perfect time in your mother's life.
ReplyDeleteThat's a beautiful story of how they met. I'm teary now, imagining parents who actually loved each other throughout their lives. ♥️
ReplyDeleteAwwwwwwwww, love that story. I'm glad your mother found someone to fill her heart with after losing your dad.
ReplyDeleteA beautiful story and the photo of them is beautiful also and they still look so very happy that he helped her with the poopy pony tail... plus they got YOU and you sure resemble your mom. You lucked out with two dads that loved you... perfect TG offering today
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet story. Luckily he was following her the day the birds pooped on her so he could help her clean up.
ReplyDeleteA treat to see this photo, Cecilia! And, yes, you certainly do look like your Mom. They are a lovely couple.
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet, cute love story! Your mother was a beautiful lady, just like YOU❣️
ReplyDeleteThat is a wonderful "how they met" story - and look what a very very happy ending they made for themselves AND their daughter! I think your Dad was very gallant to offer his hankie after the poop incident. Now that's LOVE.
ReplyDeleteHugs, Pam

That is a lovely story and beautiful memories.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the story very much. I do believe you favor your Mom, Cecilia. Now me, I favor my Dad..except Mother's red hair. What a happy dear poem you created too. The memories were so loving and real even to me reading them. XO
ReplyDeleteLovely words for being Thankful. And we loved the story of your parents. You look just like your mother, lovely and sweet.
ReplyDeleteWoos - Misty and Timber
Such a beautiful story and couple
ReplyDeleteLove that thankful list and your sweet poem. That was such a nice story too. Thanks for joining Angel Brian's Thankful Thursday Blog Hop!
ReplyDeleteThat picture of your folks put a great big smile on my face. My dad died when I was 4, and my mother never remarried. She always told me, when I asked, that she was afraid another man might not be good to me. Much later I realized she was actually afraid that I would be sexually abused. *sigh* She and I both missed out on what might have been a good thing because of her fears. I'm so glad you had a great step-dad (who was like a real dad since you were so young).
ReplyDeleteGreat poems and wonderful photo of your parents. XO
