NOW PRESENTING MOM'S MOVIE OF SOME OF THEIR PICTURES
Way up north (north to Alaska) way up north (north to Alaska)
North to Alaska a-go-north the rush is on
Big Sam left Seattle in the year of '92 with George Pratt his partner
and brother Bill, too. They crossed the Yukon River and found the bonanza gold
Below that old White Mountain just a little southeast of Nome
Sam crossed the majestic mountains to valleys far below
He talked to his team of huskies as he mushed on through the snown
With the northern lights a-runnning wild in the land of the midnight sun
Yes Sam McCord was a mighty man in the year of '91.
Where the river is windin' big nuggets they're findin'
North to Alaska
THANK YOU FOR VISITING TODAY.

I love, love, love that song. Great slide show C, I reconize some of the places.
ReplyDeleteJust an fyi, Johnny Horton's geography was a little off. If White Mountain was "southeast of Nome" it would be in the ocean. Nome sits right on a beautiful black sand beach. It's one of the places in AK I would love to visit again, the people there were so friendly.
Oh my gosh....Alaska is now calling me!! But wait, I don't like cold...what can I do? I guess sit and enjoy your slideshow for a second time. In some spots, it looks just like my Colorado Stomping Grounds [Silverton, Colorado]. And just look at that flowering bush---it's yellow, and looks like wisteria?....is that a wisteria? Whatever it is, it's just absolutely gorgeous. I so loved this song and I really, REALLY loved your video.
ReplyDeletePS....just read the comment you left for me, Mom, and I had to email you right away...check your email inbox. :o)
ReplyDeleteMy Mom wants to go there so bad.......me, not so much!
ReplyDeleteAlaska is the total opposite of Singapore, I don't think I'll do very well there hehe

Looks like your Mom had a wonderful trip. Alaska is on my list of places that I'd like to see some day. Your Mom's pictures just made me want to, more.
ReplyDeleteI haven't though of that song in years. North to Alaska and The Battle of New Orleans were two songs I would sing along with, constantly, when I was a kid.
Very cool! LOVE this song! I'll be singing it all day!
ReplyDeleteOh, I loved your slideshow! I always get a kick out of seeing pictures from places I have actually BEEN! :o)
ReplyDeleteOh... and I love Johnny Horton! :o)

Mum enjoyed seeing your photos. She said it reminded her of when she was there.
ReplyDeleteBlog Mom says she had that Johnny Horton album - in the year 1, I believe - and played that song all the time. The pictures are wonderful. Thank you both for sharing them.

ReplyDeleteYour mom's pictures were just super terrific, Madi. And I just LUVS that song. I wish I could go to Alaska. And I think you know my mom really wants to go, too. But I guess while we're waiting to go, we'll just have to come back and look at your mom's pictures again.
