Today we join Murphy and Stanley for.....
the phrase this month is
I NEEDED A GOOD EXCUSE FOR.....
As you may (or may not) remember, we have had at least 87 giant
pine trees removed from our yard since June 2014. Many were due to location and many were partially maimed by the February 2015 ice storm causing their parts and pieces to almost fall on Gracie the Highlander. As soon as spring arrived neighbors all around us started having trees removed too. In fact, one tree company on our street somewhere for 13 days. OMCs soon after all the trees came down, I kept hearing the peeps talk about our natural area being a mini forest of pine saplings.
I needed a good excuse to....send Mom out into mini forest to take pictures... I don't like getting my feets dirty and I especially don't like hot weather, so Mini Madi went with Mom to give you an idea of the depth of our forest.
I'm happy to report a forest ranger will working here soon to level all the ground, remove the
saplings before they become giant sequoias. In the fall, we'll have some bulbs, crepe myrtle and azaleas

Mini Madi is so brave and did a great job. I am glad you didn't have to get your paws dirty and you got to stay in and relax. Happy Birthday to Jan, I will go visit and introduce myself.

ReplyDeleteOMCness but that's a lot of fresh green!!! You would have smelled so sweet from the pine had you gone out Madi... as it is, mini you flushed out a whole menagerie!!!
Crikey though - could do with some of your heat over here... it is again as dreich as a gnome's armpit and thrice as cold... sigh.... hugs and whiskeries, YAM-aunty xxx
HAPPY BIRTHDAY JAN!!!
I can't believe there were that many trees on your property! Out here in Los Angeles, we don't have plots big enough for that number. Our house is supposedly on a lot that is double what most people here have and it is just over a quarter of an acre.
ReplyDeletethat's very clever to have a stand in for outdoor activities.... my mom yiiiksed as she saw that bonsai pine trees...we have to cut our pine tree's this year too, so we know now that they come back... like the bad guys in Mr. Kings novel...

Over the years at various homes we've owned, we've had to hire a tree co. to cut pine trees. Glad you are getting help in the removal. Best for you, Madi, to stay in where it is cool. I like your napping place in the kitchen chair under the table. Wishing you and Mom a nice weekend. xoxo
ReplyDeleteOh Madi Mini, what a nice walk you had in the woods. It is so much fun seeing you. With all the trees gone, guess you are living in the desert. You all have a great week end.
ReplyDeleteYikes....that really is a forest of saplings. We get lots of little palm trees like that too.
ReplyDeleteHugs, your guy Raz and The Florida Furkids
We are so glad that Mini Madi was able to tell us the tale of the saplings. We bet that will be a beautiful area once all the work is done. Mom loves crepe myrtles.

OMC Madi.... we could hardly SEE you in that HUGE FOREST of GIANT Saplings..
ReplyDeleteYou are lucky you didn't get LOST...
that is one BIG mini Forrest... as proved my mini madi .. we have pines but no little saplings, so where did these come from? pine cone seeds? i have never seen one in our yard in 25 years, maybe it is the type of tree..
ReplyDeleteWhat an adventure, Mini Madi! Sounds like that area is going to be really nice once the new landscaping is in, too. We love looking out at the azaleas here, especially in springtime.
ReplyDeleteI was gonna say Roundup, but sounds like you got it covered. I have to spray our fence rows and areas around the house. Too much acreage to try and hand pull all the saplings that come up. I hate Sweet Gum trees. And stray Popcorn trees. They are so invasive. I have to keep the population down by not letting any more come up.
ReplyDeleteYou live in a beautiful forest area! Love seeing saplings but a meadow with azaleas and bulbs would be magical next spring! Can't wait to see you exploring through that!
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice forest to explore Mini Madi!

Hey Madi!
ReplyDeleteWow, excellent excuse today for FFHT! We like seeing the mini's in action and that is definitely a spruce jungle. BOL/MOL I don't blame you for not going out there...pine sap and kitty fur is a very bad combination.
