Mom and I were thrilled to be guest TEASERS on
Sammy's Tuesday Teaser!!
Mom sent Sammy's assistant some their photos from their vacation to Grandfather Mountain, NC on July 14-17, 2015.
Congrats to Cody and Caren for being the first correct guessers.
Now we'd like to share the rest of our vacay photos with you all!!
Mom will provide commentary..warning she is
Long winded!!
Mom will provide commentary..warning she is
Long winded!!
Taken from the car Grandfather Mountain is in the distance.
It is called Grandfather mountain because from a distance it looks
like and old man with a beard, sleeping, with hands folded on chest.
You can read more here . Hubby says it is a stretch for him to visualize it. LOL
By the time we arrived...the weather changed drastically.
At the park entrance we were told the top of the mountain was closed due to
70 mph winds....bad news...but the good news was we got in for 1/2 price.
After walking around and having lunch, the top opened.
BUT it was stillllllll very very windy. I've never been in 70 mph wind but the wind up
there was rough!! I have been on the mile high bridge on a sunny calm day and once across I was afraid to go back to the other side...BUT I had to do it to get off the mountain.
I decided not to walk it this trip due to conditions.
Below is a picture of my brave hubby just before he started across.
Note the young girl trying to steady herself.
I'm told the bridge is actually a suspension bridge...my husband said he didn't feel any swinging...
Same young girl taking a shot of the storm clouds. It never rained...probably because the wind blew the clouds to Tennessee.
From way up on top of the mountain look who I spotted. Stanley one of our Mayorz!!
I tried to get down to give him a hug but alas I missed him.
Two more beautiful photos from a top Grandfather's observatory deck
In case you haven't figured it out...hubby and I love the beautiful North Carolina Mountains
I love the shades of green
From 1966-1993 Mildred the Bear was the official Mascot and well loved
attraction at the bear facility. She had several cubs. I had this photo up shortly after our
vacation but with out the plaque honoring Mildred's life.

ANIMAL EXHIBITS
Here are some photos of the bears now living in the the beautiful facility
Every day at 11 the bears have an enrichment session with their
keepers. This one knows what is coming...so his tongue is ready...
but in a nanosecond the jelly side was showing and the jelly gone
THIS BEAR CRACKED ME UP..I HAD NO IDEA THEY HAD WHITE ON THEIR CHEST
there is an Eagle enclosure...the Eagles are were injured at some point but cannot survive in the wild.
There was also a cougar exhibit...but in true feline fashion they CHOSE not to be seen...
their enrichment time was 1 pm... we all know cats only do things that benefit them.
It was so cold and windy up there we left way before then.
So here is a photo of my favorite wild cat
One day we had lunch here....our friends live in the
Yadkin Valley Wine Country of North Carolina
The vineyard had gorgeous iron work all around the property.
IF YOU ARE STILL AWAKE, WE THANK YOU FOR STOPPING BY...

I have seen Grandfather Mountain from a distance but I would love to visit there. Of course, I love Mildred the Bear!!! Great name! Thanks for sharing your photos. That fence is so unique and pretty.
ReplyDeleteoh I'm sure still awake, that was pawsome to travel with you to the grandfather mountain. I probably wouldn't enter that bridge, but even from a distance, your country is wonderful. I like the story about Mildred the bear, it was fabulous that she lived 27 years in your state. is that common that bears have such a long live?

What a beautiful place. It looks like an amazing adventure!
ReplyDeleteMy mum said she enjoyed the photos and it looks lovely there. She doesn't like heights so there is no way she would even put one foot on that bridge.

ReplyDeleteOMCness what outstanding natural beauty!!! I am glad we got share this trip with you - albeit by proxy! Hugs and whiskeries, YAM-aunty xxx
Those were terrific pictures and the bear sitting was hysterical. That bridge looks way to scary. You would never find me on there. Madi, love the picture with you with the bear. And we stayed awake through it all. It was great.
ReplyDeleteMom sat staring at the first photo for quite a while until she eventually declared that she is with your Dad...she cannot stretch her imagination far enough to see an old man in those mountains.
ReplyDeleteWhat an aroooootiful place to visit, North Carolina is very pretty indeed.
Wally & Sammy
Oh Madi...one of Mildred's cubs looks just like you! BOL
ReplyDeletetell mom to be careful, she almost joined me as a 'bloviator' today. MOL.... beautiful places to visit and i can't believe you saw the mayor... i am with your dad, i don't see the grandfather no matter how i stretch.. and there is no way in this wide world i would ever walk across that bridge, not matter what the weather was. but i would stand really far back from the edge and madly snap photos . a beautiful vacation. and i love that ironwork
ReplyDeleteYa'll had a neat vacation. Unfortunately, the heights would have done me in. Can't take them. You know the term shaking in your boots. Well it applies. The bottom of my feet start tingling and works it's way up.
ReplyDeleteThat was quite the outing and it sure is a beautiful place!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great place to visit!! We just loved the photos fro the top of the mountain!! We stayed wide awake, We (and Mama!) just love seeing new and interesting places!

Those were gorgeous photos and those dark clouds looked very ominous. Mom doesn't think she would have gone on the swinging bridge either.
ReplyDeleteWow, what a beautiful place! And we loved those clouds too. But that suspension bridge would have mom going the opposite direction!
ReplyDeleteYour Pals,
Murphy & Stanley
What a beautiful place to visit! Yea - mom would not have gone on the bridge with no wind! Well maybe if it was only 2 feet off the ground.

What a beautiful place, I loved all the photos! Those bears are so gorgeous, if you are going to keep animals in captivity it is important to have lots of enrichment.

We think your Mom's favorite cat is quite special. Thanks for sharing the photos, what a great place to visit. Mom laughed about the bridge. Many years ago she and Dad took her mother and the family to Newport. They had to cross a very long and very high bridge. Grandma had no idea about that bridge. She was terrified. She told our Dad he had to find another way back because she was not going back over that bridge:) Mom thinks Dad got lost on purpose and found a different way back.
ReplyDeleteWoos - Ciara and Lightning
What a fantastic vacation. That wild cat is amazing too!!!!
ReplyDeleteHugs, your guy Raz and The Florida Furkids

ReplyDeleteThose are great photos. Your hubby is brave to go on the bridge when the winds we so strong. I didn't know bears could have white on their chests- not that I have ever gotten close enough to one :)
ReplyDeleteAmazing! A wonderful trip and how brave of hubby!!! xxx
ReplyDeleteExcellent.
ReplyDeleteI do NOT do 'suspension' bridges....that one in Canon City Colorado [supposedly the highest in the USA]....I took two steps, looked down through the 'cracks' of the bridge pieces, it swayed...and I turned around and waited on the SAFE side.
Love the bears...and your favorite wild cat of course...Fun, fun time.
That looks like a great trip, despite the wind. The mountains truly are beautiful, but Gail and I both think Mom was very wise to avoid that suspension bridge. When it is really windy in Scotland (which is often, although not usually 70 mph quite) I, Bertie, find it a bit scary, and prefer to attach myself to Gail with the walking string. I don't feel it is compromising my masculinity to admit this, is it?
ReplyDeleteToodle pip!
Bertie.
I was wondering if it was a suspension bridge! Windy is not good.
ReplyDeleteMadi, you keeping those bear cubs company?
Hope the wine was great!
That was a great teaser, Madi. What an amazing place. Those bears are really cool.
ReplyDeleteWOWSA GURL!!! How pawsome was that trip?! I am all kinds of jealous!!! I would have loved to go see a bear in the furs!!! Okays, maybe not..I hears their talons are longer than mine! Yikes!
ReplyDeleteOh, did I hears somethings abouts WINE???? Yes please!!! Make mine a Rose...I hears that is ALL the rage right nows!
Kisses,
Ruby ♥
