Futuristic Flower Friday

Thursday Afternoon Mom and Dad took a ride over to N C State University to see the new state of the art Library and the resident BookBot... more on that further down.
They could have stayed for hours but parking is an issue, only 1 hour at a time and you have to keep going back to the pay station to add to it.  Let me just say with
mom and dad's normal morning walk, buying groceries and then this field trip
they logged 12,376 steps on Thursday...
Here are a few photos mom took outside and inside.
First thing seen when entering the Library
It changes colors
ALL of the stairs are YELLOW!!
One of the many student lounges.
What a colorful building.  Mom was in TECHNICOLOR heaven

She also saw some pretty flowers while walking around this beautiful building.
Lovely purple flowers
then she noticed what was shaped like cattails behind them.
She and dad both thought..they must be solar powered

She saw more futuristic cattails surrounded by the lovely yellow flowers
and a close up below

When she got home she did a search, and sure enough they are solar powered flowers.
Below is a photo of the building at night
courtesy of James B. Hunt Library on NC State Centennial Campus
Mom says they must go back to see them for themselves at night.

Now for a few photos of this gorgeous new Library.

Here is the book storage area there are over 1 million books.
This state of the art storage allows for more room for students
and other services.
 Even BookBot is yellow.
There is one central location/control area where one goes to
enter a book request.

  3. The BookBot is amazing, but I'm thinking I'd miss the simple pleasures of browsing the shelves.
Bertie Boffin wants to point out that ALL flowers are solar powered!
    Cheers, Gail.

  4. What a spectacular library! My Mom could spend ALL DAY there (and probably all night until they found her curled up in a corner sleeping on a pile of books!)

  5. My word, that place looks wonderful! Dad likes spending waaay too much time at the library here in Chapel Hill, which he and mom say is the best library ever, but I'm sure he'd have a field day over there. He'll have to check it out one of these weekends.

  7. Wow, that is really something. Just gorgeous except I would be afraid of getting lost or not being able to find anything. Great pictures and thanks for telling us about it.

  9. What an amazing library! I've never seen anything like it. I must say, it's refreshing to see a university spend its money on an ultramodern library rather than, say, a new football stadium or gourmet luxe food court. I watched the video of the bot and thought, "why has no one ever thought of doing that before?" ;) I agree with Bouncing Bertie that I love browsing the shelves at "my" library. Students doing research probably don't have a lot of leisure time for that though!

  11. An amazing place. I love the flowers. I hope one day my 4 acre yard will be more than a 4 acre jungle.

  20. Even though this place is really breath-taking, I'm with Bertie about missing the browsing. I mean, how would I know what I want to read if I can't browse, right?

  21. Does that student lounge look almost like a throwback to the 60's or 70's to you? It did to me. It's a gorgeous library -- it does look very futuristic. I love the purple flowers. I think that they're lupines but they don't bloom here until a few months from now (our high elevation slows everything down!). Thanks for the tour! And that's A LOT of steps!
