Tuesday Knot Tale

I used to be a frayed knot but now I am

NOT

About 87 years ago, (I'm older than dirt) I took a macrame class and loved it. Obviously I was a sailor in another life.  I had no idea I could tie knots.  The owl has been hanging on the inside of the guest room closet for years.  While looking thru Christmas decorations last week, I discovered the wreath.
Both are entirely made up of knots with fraying.
The owls eyes and nose are wooden beads.  I also made a ghost.
I'm still looking for that.  Of course you'll see it should I find it.
Hugs Cecilia

PSA
Tis the time of the year for the collards to be bought, cleaned, picked and cooked, cooled then frozen until  Christmas.
We bought 3 lbs of Cabbage Collards at our Farmer's Market yesterday. Today  is cooking day.
You might see pictures  of all of the above in the near future.
LOL

  1. I hope macrame will come back, it is a super way to create wonderful things. the mama once made a hanging basket for her mom in school with a cyclamen... well it ended like all her diy projects, butr her mama had joy anyway after she removed the mess from the cyclamen on the floor ;O))))

oh yes, I learned macrame too, and that nail and string picture making that was all the craze once. I was better at the latter than the former - but actually love macrame more. Yours are gorgeous!!! YAM xx

  4. Oh I can remember the "macramé" years back in the 60s/70s and I never learned how to do that but always loved the hanging plants I had suspended in beautiful macramé hangers. Bravo to you for learning how - love your owl and wreath!

  7. The housekeeper has tied herself in knots just sewing, much less knotting. That might put her over the edge! We like the light and the owl very much! - Tom x

  10. we always had collards this time of year, in daddy's garden, he had greens of one kind or another growing year round. but we never cooked and froze them. sounds like a good idea to me. I remember the macramé frenzy 87 years ago, the plant hangers were mothers thing and a whole lot of other people. yours are much fancier than hers. of course I never tried it since I have not one craft gene in my body. but I did have one hanging in my kitchen

  11. We did Macrame in art class. I was a whiz at it too. I did a bunch of pot hangers. No cord was safe from me for a very long time.

I love the owl and wreath. Collards.........you know I love those.

We like to cook collard greens with a smoked turkey wing or drum stick. We never thought about freezing it, though. Good idea!

  20. Those are both beautiful creations, Cecilia. Nice work. Mom once made a macrame hanging pot holder, but the plant pot never hung straight:)

  21. So pretty!!! I used to do a lot of macramé, but was all self-taught. The biggest thing I made was a full-sized headboard for my sister to hang over her bed. It was really intricate. I loved doing it!

  26. I love your knot-tying skills. I have no crafty bones in my body. I've only been a Southerner for 34 years, so collard greens haven't had time to grow on me yet, LOL. The dogs love them, though.

  27. What a great way to use your talent for tying knots! It's safer than being a sailor and it makes such pretty Christmas decorations!
