While walking around downtown Sparta, NC on September 13

What Sparta, NC, is known for

Sparta is a small town in the mountains of North Carolina population 1,700. It’s known for being “miles away” from other cities in NC but also close enough to other towns when you need to get away for a short time. Sparta is located in the heart of Alleghany County, a county with nearly 11,155 residents. Named for Greek city of Sparta. It is very close to the border of the State of Virginia

Raleigh is 2 hr 56 min (174.2 mi) via I-40 West

Elevation of Sparta 2,927′

Raleigh is centrally located.  We can get to parts of our mountains or the coast in 2 to 3 hours.

I should have purchased this t shirt
It is 100% true.

  1. Gail and Nobby want to know if there is anything particularly Spartan about Sparta.
Gail should be wearing that tee shirt right now!

Yeah, I'd say nothing Spartan about it! Something about these shots reminded me of the trip from Sydney to the Blue Mountains in NSW... YAM xx

  5. It is that time of year where we also often walk with our shadow at our side. Sparta was in a TV show at one point, but other than that, we don't know much about it.

  6. what and adventure, so glad you had a short getaway. we have dozens of places that are 1 hour to 2 hours away in any direction. I am married to a ROCK. he will go no where. I have been to everything within a half hour by myself or with a friend but not this far. your lizard is type of lizard but is a blue-tail skink. we had those in Savannah, they were every where. the difference is the skink is more like a snake, liek a combo snake/lizard.
