Bugleweed is a broadleaf, evergreen to semi-evergreen, herbaceous perennial ground cover in the Lamiaceae (mint) family. It is native to Europe, northern Africa, and southwestern Asia. Its compact, dense mat has beautiful small clusters of purple flowers which appear in mid to late spring.
It tolearates all light levels and is an excellent choice for moist areas, although it will tolerate moderately dry soils. In cool, shady areas where grass will not grow it makes a thick, attractive ground cover. Avoid planting in wet, heavy soils, and provide good air circulation. Divide these plants when they grow too crowded in the spring or fall, or propagate by seed.
Bugleweed is attractive in a mass planting in a naturalized area, on a slope or bank, or in a woodland garden. A dense mat will help smother weeds, but avoid planting near perennial beds or lawns where its spreading nature could pose removal problems. This plant is resistant to browsing by deer.

Flashback with Angel Madi
a good idea and a good plant ... we agree for the sunpuddles.... they appear at weird places sometimes but they are still there.....
ReplyDeleteI'm not very good with plants inside or out. These are nice though. If I wouldn't kill everything I would havemore plants.
ReplyDeleteI haven't heard of that plant before. A couple of years ago I bought two spring flowering plants for the raised bed. They have spread like crazy so I will have to split them up and transplant in others places. They do put up their tiny red flowers all through the year though as long as I remember to give the dead ones a haircut! I haven't got a clue what they are called though. Madi had found herself a nice sun puddle.
ReplyDeleteHari Om
ReplyDeleteI know this plant, it's very pretty... So is Heuchera which has similar growing habit but big variety in leaf. Well done Bryan! YAM xx
Our yard is a disaster area with leaves everywhere, some snow from yesterday and all the plants are now dead from the below freezing temps. When we get home next week, Mom has a lot of yard work to do! Your yard looks great.
ReplyDeleteI am sure Madi has found all the sunpuddle in heaven by now. she looks so sweet in her sunpuddle. super job on your header. love it! and the word that starts with A, ha ha I love the way it looks. we have dry sand soil, no rain, and HEAT and son, so not for us but I would love it. I am going to start sticking jungle plants all around the ugly stump and hope it grows. it grows like a weed but its so hot and dry it might not. we have not had one drop of rain since Oct 9th..
ReplyDeleteWe are certainly having months and months of sunshine up here with no rain. Sometimes the kitty takes advantage of the Sun puddle. Right now she's spending her second day underneath the bed since coming home from the vet on wednesday. It's lovely that you have warm enough weather to plant flowers for the fall. Up here between the drought and the time of year everything is gone gone.
ReplyDeleteYour master gardener does a very good jot. Looks great. Hello Angel Madi.
ReplyDeletewavez two ewe madi…tell yur mom and dad ther garden iz pawsum awsum total lee kewl…stuff heer iz in sleep mode til spring 😺🖤🧡🤎💛🐟‼️
ReplyDeleteDearest Cecilia,
ReplyDeleteIn our woodgarden we once had all the Ajuga varieties and more but that time is past. We lost so many of them.
Keeping them in planters is a clever idea!
Oh, how Madi enjoyed her little paradise in the sun and perfect on her rug.
Fond memories that make one smile...
Hugs,
Mariette + Kitties

Your planters look beautiful and angel Madi looks like she is sooooo enjoying that sunPuddle!
ReplyDeleteHow nice of the Master Gardener! The flower bed with the added Ajuga is very pretty. I always look forward to seeing your fall planters on the deck. I love pansies! I always planted pansies in containers and the squirrels always rolled around in them and wrecked them... stinkers. Angel Madi loving her sun puddle♥
ReplyDeleteThis Ajuga is a very interesting plant and thank you for all the information. I also loved how your resident Master Gardener created that island with the pretty brick formation. It's very pleasing to the eyes, impressively so. Madi in the sun, so cute! Thanks for sharing and Happy 1st Day of November :)
ReplyDeleteAngel Madi did love her sun puddles!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful plant bugleweed is, you sure do have a wonderful gardener! <3
hugs,
Beth and the Girls
Your potted arrangements are very pretty. I have no talent with plants. Angel Madi loved the sun puddles just like my pup girls do!
ReplyDeleteThat is pretty. I always enjoy seeing Angel Madi. XO
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing the beauty of your surrounding with us
ReplyDeleteDoes your Master Gardener make house calls in Virginia?? My Mom and Dad don't have the energy for gardening any longer but porch plants decorate our world now that they can't work in the yard. We think your yard looks FAB! Love seeing Angel Madi in the sun puddle - we miss that sweet girl.
ReplyDeleteHugs, Teddy
Your garden is a delight. Hat's off to the green thumb.
ReplyDeleteAngel Madi knew her sunpuddles, didn't she. Thank you for linking up with Feline Friday!
