Our hosts for Nature Friday LLB Gang
North Carolina's state freshwater fish, the Southern Appalachia Brook Trout was designated in 2005. It is found in the pure, high-elevation streams of Southern Appalachia.
Known for their vibrant colors but also for facing significant population declines due to historical logging and the introduction of non-native trout species. Conservation efforts, including captive propagation and reintroduction programs, are underway to restore these populations in areas like the Great Smoky Mountains and western North Carolina.
- Genetics and size: This is a unique strain that is genetically distinct from its northern counterparts and is typically smaller, with individuals often growing to only 6-8 inches long.
- Habitat: They live in cold, clear, spring-fed headwater streams at high elevations, often in remote areas.
- Appearance: They have unique patterns and vibrant colors, which become even more striking in the fall.
- Role in ecosystem: They are considered a keystone species and a bellwether for the health of their stream ecosystems, as they are very sensitive to pollution and temperature changes.

ReplyDeleteMiss C - loved that fish info, what a fine water beastie! YAM xx
K&R - Well, at least it's a tattoo that makes sense, right? Meanwhile, you two just made my heart melt!!! hugs and whiskeries, YAM-aunty xxx
I wouldn't want a tattoo either...but that is a fun one!
ReplyDeleteWe hope the fish conservation efforts go well.,
I love that tattoo, although I would never have one. Kat and Rocky give a good demonstration. Interesting info about the fish.
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine a sewing machine type needle going in and out of my arm for who knows how long but there are lots of brave peeps out there and we love the tattoo you created, Miss Cecilia! What a very handsome trout fishie!
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't hurt that badly. Really. It is a pretty tattoo though ;-)
DeleteI'm not a tattoo person but I do like that one. I appreciate the art but would never want one myself.
ReplyDeleteMmm, fresh trout. Yummy. 😁
ReplyDeleteThat tattoo is fantastic! I DO have tattoos, three actually, though none is a cat. Oddly, the ones on my shoulders, into muscle, hurt more than the one on my ankle! Anyway, you two are doing a terrific approximation, all curled up like that.
The brook trout is indeed a beautiful fish. And so is Kat and Rocky! I don't mean a fish of course, LOL. I mean beautiful cats. And I think they posed just purrfectly.
ReplyDeleteTattoos are really in these days. Our mom would never have one either and she doesn't particularly like them when they are all over someone. A small one somewhere isn't so bad. What happens when they go out of style?
ReplyDeleteReally pretty fish. I don't do tatoo's either. Love your style Kat and Rocky.
ReplyDeleteGuys, Rocky and Kat, (you handsome thing!!!) you look super as Ying and Yang.
ReplyDeleteWhat a purrfect tattoo for a cat lover! Of course, we are bigger fans of the Kat/Rocky Yin Yang kitties!
ReplyDeletexoxo,
Rosy & Sunny (and Beth)
Sweet Yin Yang kitty photos ~ hugs,
ReplyDeleteHugs to you Cecilia and Angel Madi ~ xo

I am wondering if you two Yin and Yang cutie pies are even aware there is a big beautiful FISH over your head, might be to big for you to catch though. Its a shame these fish are disappearing. you look much more adorable than the tattoo kitties..
ReplyDeletekat N rocky ewe R total lee spot on with yur tat two poze…N brook trout ‼️‼️🐟🐟now yur talkin 😸😸😸😸🤎🧡💛
ReplyDeleteKat and Rocky are so cute all snuggled up together.
ReplyDeleteWhen I moved to north GA, 50 years ago, I loved to go trout fishing. Such a peaceful pastime on the beautiful mountain rivers. The best thing is you use canned corn for bait, no slimy worms. 😹
ReplyDeletemol mol I tried fishing once as a child. Daddy baited my hook a few times
Deleteonce he said I needed to handle the worms that was the end of fishing.
Corn is much more fisher friendly
The best tattoos are the temporary kind! So much more scope for color and detail :-)
ReplyDeleteRainbow trout are very pretty! That's some cool tatoo!
ReplyDeleteThat is a nice tattoo. Interesting about the trout. XO
ReplyDeleteThe trout looks quite colorful.
ReplyDeleteLink Linker the Stinker and Dansig the Round used to lie together in similar positions, Link is gray and Dansig was orange, it looked a lot like these two.
Thank you for linking up with Feline Friday!
