Madi's Gotcha Day May 11, 2002 & Award

On Wednesday, May 5, all the beautiful kitties at Katnip Lounge graciously gave us this Beautiful Blogger award. Madi and I thought today, her 8th Gotcha Day, was the perfect day to post it along with the below pictures of Madi today and 8 years ago. The rules are to tell you 7 things about us.
1. Madi: Loves Southern Cornbread
2. Mom: Loves humming birds. She does a happy hummingbird dance on the first day they arrive.
3.Madi: IS REALLY Gray and White not black and white
4. Mom: Is NOT a Diva (there is only room for one Diva in the house)!!
5. Madi: Has a sister***
6. Mom:When was a toddler, she gave, Lady, the family Collie and her puppies a hair cut then decided to cut her own hair...which required a trip to the hair dresser for damage control for this reason.....
7.Madi:Runs when she sees Mom with a pair of scissors.....

Madi our gorgeous Diva: May 10, 2010 (above)

Madi our gorgeous Diva in training: May 11, 2002 (below)

We adopted Madi on May 11, 2008, the Saturday before Mother's Day, it was love at first sight.
This is her story: It had been 2 years since Milky-Way went to the play on the Rainbow Bridge.
It was time to move on. We had been thinking about a kitten for several months. We were not trying to replace MW so we decided a gray kitten would suite us just fine. Madi was in a cage with her sister. They were listed as Kitty L and Kitty M. Kitty L was a precious calico but we had our mind set on a gray kitty so Kitty M was going to be ours. As you can see from the above picture, Kitty M, was a little speck of kitten but she came with a ton of personality and she knew what she liked and didn't like. It was several days maybe even a week, before we settled on a name for this little ball of fluff. It took us longer to agree on a name for Kitty M that it did to name our human daughter. This particular spot on the love seat is still in the top five of her favorite places to sleep. Kitty L, Madi's sister, soon became Lucy***. She was adopted by a friend. At about 1 year old, Lucy ate 3 pennies, which had to be removed surgically. Her owner told us the surgery cost 599.97... the vet gave him the 3 pennies after the surgery. Over the last 5 years we lost track of Lucy; however, it is our hope she is as happy and as well loved as Madi. Thankfully Madi never developed a taste for copper. The worst craving she had in her first year was a taste for wood. We thought she was a termite in cat's clothing. In particular, cherry, in particular, the cherry wood of our Ethan Allan Secretary and our Grandfather clock. At about 6 months old, we noticed she was constantly staring at the chair by our fireplace. Soon we learned that the staring was actually her mathematical mind calculating the distance between the chair, across the mantel (without breaking any knick knacks) and up to the top of the Secretary. Once there she decided the design of the finial needed to be different shape. Luckily we caught her before any damage was done. However, keeping her down proved to be a monumental task. We readily admitted to being out witted by a 3 lb kitten. We moved the chair into the center of the family room for several months. She soon discovered she could jump from the stairs to the top of the Grandfather clock. There was no moving the clock so we wrapped it in a quilt secured with duct tape (yet another use for duct tape). I finally realized that Madi was after height...so we bought a 6' cat tree for her. After her first birthday she lost interest in both the Secretary and the Grandfather clock. Milk-way our first cat never tried to get to the top of either of these pieces of furniture. We quickly learned Madi was not to be compared to Milky-way but the good news was she filled the huge void losing Milky-way left in our hearts and to this day she continues to amaze, amuse and astonish us and make us smile.
We love you baby girl,
Mom and Dad

  30. Hi Madi & Mom,

A belated Happy Gotcha Day Madi! We really enjoyed the story about your early days. You were a real climber huh? Cindi doesn't climb much but Tasha was always on something. All kitties are so different.

We are back and will be posting soon. It was a fun trip but the last couple of days I have been doing laundry, picking up debris from the wind storm and mowing foot high grass.

    Hugs & Purrs,
    Judy and Cindi Lou
