Steeple Sunday: Trinity Baptist Church

On September 11, 1955, during a meeting at a private home plans were made to organize a new Baptist Church on Six Forks Road. Similar meetings were held in homes each Sunday through November 13, 1955. A little over 4 acres were purchased for $13,800.00. There was an old school on the property. Church members restored the original auditorium of the school. On January 8, 1956 the first service was held in the auditorium. In the '50's this part of Six Forks Road was just farm land. Today is one of the major traffic arteries connecting North Raleigh to major highways. In the picture below you can see the side of the sanctuary and a portion of the education buildings of Trinity Baptist. The church facilities
continue on to the left of this picture for about one block. The membership for TBC is 2,141.
There are several very lovely windows in the church. I thought this one below the steeple was
especially pretty. I love the triangle with the cross in it. The triangle with the cross on the window is a religious symbol for The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit.
As grand as this church is, I expected their sign to be much more ornate than it is.

  1. Well, I guess the sign is humble. It's interesting how we do live on slightly different schedules. I see that Vacation Bible School sign for June dates. Summer vacation hasn't even begun here by then. In fact I think regular school just finished last week.

Thanks for the photos. As always, beautiful and interesting.

  2. Madi and Mom,
Lola is right, up here the kids just got out of school for the summer, in our area VBS is usually in August. :) Thanks for the lovely pictures. When mom lived in Whiteville NC she attended a Trinity Baptist Church.

  5. Happy Sunday. We liked the triangle window too and were fine with the humble sign. In Scotland Baptist churches tend to be more humble and less ornate than the old Church of Scotlands or Chapels.
We like the clean and simple lines.

  6. I didn't even notice the cross in the triangle until you pointed it out! I saw the cross but was thinking that was a strange architectural feature!

  7. Interesting how the area has grown around the church, isn't that always the way? Mommy likes the mature tree in the parking lot...she misses big trees.

  13. Hi C & Madi,

The window under the steeple is lovely but the reflection of the sky is beautiful. The sign does seem a little plain next to such a magnificent structure.

I have been seeing vacation bible school signs all over town, our schools have been out for a couple of weeks.
