Flashback Friday: Milky-Way's method of marking.....

Milky-Way was a manly cat. His greatest passion was to mark everything as HIS.
He was neutered at 6 months so, thankfully, his method of marking was by rubbing the sides of his mouth on EVERYTHING several times a day for 14 1/2 year. Sometimes when he would do this to his humans. His meow sounded like he was saying 'Mine'. In this picture, he was marking the corner of the wall heading toward his humans sister's room....which was near his box and he must have passed it and marked it ten times a day. If you look closely, you will see that he is rubbing against a cat-a-comb on this corner.
We put it there for two reasons:
#1. to cover the missing paint from his daily markings he always rubbed the side of his mouth along the edge of the wall. His teeth wore the paint off that corner.
#2. if you aren't familar with cat-a-combs, it was about 3" long by 2" wide it wrapped around the corner attached by double sided velcro. It had hard plastic bristles that evidently felt wonderful to rub against. Of course, there was a catnip pouch on it too. Milky-way was a wonderful, patient teacher. We learned so much from him and Madi, the Diva, has benefited from each and everything he taught us.

Madi here: Harley....my human sister's Cornish Rex kitty is not feeling well at all this week. Lots of ongoing health issues. Please keep him in your thoughts.

  1. It is so important to establish one's territory - probably MW had to work twice as hard due to that obsession humans have with cleaning!

  2. MW was a character! How funny that he had to mark his territory that many times a day!
The cat a comb was a great invention: protected the wall and gave him an instant chin scratch!
Does the Diva use it, too?

  18. In our youth and come to think of it, even now, we have fairly well managed to destroy lots of things in our house. Table legs, shoes, chair seats, the rug (yeah, we made an especially good job there) to the extent that she has given up and decided it is a "dogs first" house. So corners don't really happen where we live.

Think big Madi, wreck the house. Its loadsa fun!

  21. Hi Madi & Mom,

MW just wanted to make sure no strange kitties would try to take over his territory, it's a guy thing I suppose.

Sorry to hear about Harley's illness, he will be in our thoughts.

    Purrs & Hugs,
    Cindi Lou and Judy

PS, The little bird in my header is a male Western Tanager, isn't he beautiful.

Other PS, Cindi made an appearance on the other blog. She says she wants more blog time.
