Flashback Friday: Milky-Way's method of marking.....

Milky-Way was a manly cat. His greatest passion was to mark everything as HIS.
He was neutered at 6 months so, thankfully, his method of marking was by rubbing the sides of his mouth on EVERYTHING several times a day for 14 1/2 year. Sometimes when he would do this to his humans. His meow sounded like he was saying 'Mine'. In this picture, he was marking the corner of the wall heading toward his humans sister's room....which was near his box and he must have passed it and marked it ten times a day. If you look closely, you will see that he is rubbing against a cat-a-comb on this corner.
We put it there for two reasons:
#1. to cover the missing paint from his daily markings he always rubbed the side of his mouth along the edge of the wall. His teeth wore the paint off that corner.
#2. if you aren't familar with cat-a-combs, it was about 3" long by 2" wide it wrapped around the corner attached by double sided velcro. It had hard plastic bristles that evidently felt wonderful to rub against. Of course, there was a catnip pouch on it too. Milky-way was a wonderful, patient teacher. We learned so much from him and Madi, the Diva, has benefited from each and everything he taught us.

Madi here: human sister's Cornish Rex kitty is not feeling well at all this week. Lots of ongoing health issues. Please keep him in your thoughts.

  1. It is so important to establish one's territory - probably MW had to work twice as hard due to that obsession humans have with cleaning!

  2. MW was a character! How funny that he had to mark his territory that many times a day!
The cat a comb was a great invention: protected the wall and gave him an instant chin scratch!
Does the Diva use it, too?
    Hugs, Kathy

  3. Maybe Milky Way was OCD....never know :/
but either was M.W. was very Handsome!!

  4. See dis be exactly why you don't trust kittehs...they always be up to sumptin...oh wait, I coulds have just described myself.
Anyways, what is sooooo bad bouts marking your territory. It all be in da handbook all we animals get.

  5. Madi was very lucky to haves such a wonderful big brudder that trained you so well.

    Woofs and Licks,
    Maggie Mae

PeeS Found out from Sassy that Harley is not feeling well :( We hopes he is better soon.

  6. Oh, that's a Most Wonderful contraption. My mom has seen it at PetSmart and stuff but couldn't decides whether to gives them green papers for it or not cuz she wasn't sure if the kittehs would like it. I'll have to tell her to spring for it!

I'm very much sorry to hear that Harley is feeling poorly. Please tell him that we're thinking abouts him and hopes he is all better real fast!

    Wiggles & Wags,

PeeS. My mom thought it was SO funny what Madi's dad said about Madi not caring. Now THAT is a TRUE diva!

  7. Johnson does the same thing! A few times a year Mommy gets out the spray cleaner and does the door jambs and corners where he rubs. Then he's gotta start all ove again!

We will send some purrs Harley's way ASAP!

  8. Get well soon Harley. I'll be thinking of you.

LOL...MW, did you teach my kitties how to mark?

  9. Fun to know about MW! Hop eit has cooled down for you guys. Sending purrs for the Rex kitty. Happy 4th to you all.

  10. We could use one of those cat-a-combs - or something. Only we need it to be about 4 feet tall. Happy has done in a whole piece of molding.

    wags, Lola

  11. Cat-a-comb....who'd a thunk...and catnip to boot...MW was a very happy camper I bet!

  12. HIYA MADI~!!! We couldn't find you on our furriends list...Potpourri in NC isn't here anymore! But we are happy to say we founded you again and think you look darling on Sammy & Andy's blog today! Hoping all is well and sorry we haven't been around lately.

  13. Harley will be in our thoughts and prayers....

  14. Hi Madi. We luv your flashback fridays.

Mom posted a picture today just fur you!

  15. Great photo!
We can still see Cosmo's "mark" on his favorite corner...gone but never forgotten!

  16. We are purring for Harley.
We never heard of a cat-a-comb but now we wants one! MW sure was a handsome fellow, we hopes they has cat-a-combs at the bridge for him.
Have a great weekend, love TK

  17. Get better Harley!!!

We have several of those corners in our house - from puppy times!

  18. In our youth and come to think of it, even now, we have fairly well managed to destroy lots of things in our house. Table legs, shoes, chair seats, the rug (yeah, we made an especially good job there) to the extent that she has given up and decided it is a "dogs first" house. So corners don't really happen where we live.

Think big Madi, wreck the house. Its loadsa fun!

    Hector and Bonny

  19. We love hearing Milky Way stories!! Wally marks alot like MW used to do.

We're purring for Harley and hope he feels better soon...

  20. Hmmmm! Milky Way was so interesting!

Actually, Milky Way and Sandusky here haves a lot in common! Sandusky is always rubbing his chin against everything!

  21. Hi Madi & Mom,

MW just wanted to make sure no strange kitties would try to take over his territory, it's a guy thing I suppose.

Sorry to hear about Harley's illness, he will be in our thoughts.

    Purrs & Hugs,
    Cindi Lou and Judy

PS, The little bird in my header is a male Western Tanager, isn't he beautiful.

Other PS, Cindi made an appearance on the other blog. She says she wants more blog time.

Please leave a meow or bark for Angel Madi...her assistant (aka Mom) will respond in a timely fashion. =^..^=
