TODAY'S WORD IS
Oh is mom happy about today's word...
we'd like to show you our
Eastern Bluebird House and Nest(ing) cup
The male bluebird builds the nest in the cup.
We don't know if he would build w/o it...
because we always use the cups.
The bluebird house is made with a side opening, shown below, so nosy humans can peep in there to check the nest for eggs.
Once the eggs are hatched MOM NEVER opens
the side door.
Once many years ago mom opened the side to check for eggs...
lo and behold the Mrs. BB was in the house..when mom open the side door Mrs. BB almost flew into mom's hair.....SO now
before Mom opens the side door she knocks first. If Mrs. BB
is there she flies out the front hole. Usually we get at least one or two broods of baby BB in the spring! And March is the month Mr. BB starts looking for the perfect real estate for Mrs. BB.
She can be a little picky. We have full bird feeders and BB pellets
near by,a bird bath, and shrubs close by so she can get a break from the baby BB but keep an eye on the house.
Your human really knows how to stage bluebird real estate!
ReplyDeleteWe love nesting boxes and have several at our home. Unfortunately they are not anywhere close to our catio. Pffffft!

Oh those are such lucky BlueBirds to have such a nice nesting place and that does look just perfect. Bet it is fun tp watch the baby birds grow up. You all have a great day.
ReplyDeleteWe have a nest in the tree right outside my front window, tis fun!
ReplyDeleteHow cool. We used to have a morning dove who nested in one of Mom's ferns every year.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
your guy Raz and The Florida Furkids
OMD OMD that nesting cup is a new one to us... we just have gourds that they have built in... ON their OWN.. You are MUCH nicer to YOUR BB's than we are..even though one did give your mom a HAIRY SCARY!!
ReplyDeleteAgree with Summer! MOL That is way cool, Madi! Your Mom has taste :)
ReplyDeleteWe never heard of a nesting cup! Our BB's are actually Scrub Jays. We are happy to see anything that isn't all brown BOL!
ReplyDeleteYour pals,
Murphy & Stanley
Wow...your Mama is a wonderful BBBB (Bluebird Bed and Breakfast) hostess!!!
ReplyDeleteSmileys!
Dory, Jakey, Arty & Bilbo
What a lovely lovely nest!!!
ReplyDeleteYour Mom has such nice manners to remember to knock first:) It must be fun to watch the nest building and then watch the nestlings grow and mature. Mom used to have canaries that mated and it was so much fun for her own children to watch.
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend.
Woos - Phantom, Ciara, and Lightning
That is so cool, Madi! I've never known any one, much less a feline, that had their own bluebird nest.
ReplyDeleteOf course Mom, you gotta knock first, only polite!
ReplyDeleteCan we see photos, with mrs BBs permission, if they nest this year. I luffs pretty birdies
Loves and licky kisses

I love this, and can just imagine you knocking before entering the bluebird's home. Maybe you can share a photo of the nest with some eggs later this spring!
ReplyDeleteknocking first sounds like a good idea. Mom opened our bird house door and wasps flew out, BOL
ReplyDeleteSnorts,
Lily & Edward
We've never heard of those cups. Our bluebirds seem to like our boxes just fine without them though. We're glad you get some babies too.
ReplyDeleteThat is a great residence for Mrs BB. We have a Mrs BB here who builds her nest in the Leylandii hedge. She is Mrs Blackbird though.
ReplyDeleteHope they have a healthy clutch this year in the Blue Bird Box!!
ReplyDeleteHugs and nose taps,
Kathy and Molly
That is great! I have never heard of the cup before.
ReplyDeleteWow, how cool that you have a BB nesting cup. We find an occasional bird's nest that falls out of the tree and the mom saves them. :)
ReplyDeleteWow u have to knock on the door. We will keep an eye out fur blue birds.
ReplyDeleteSo very cool! It really is polite to knock on the door of a home that isn't yours anyway. So your mom is very respectful of those birds! ;)
ReplyDeletelol....a blue bird hair barrette would not be the thing to have.
