Saturday Photo Hunt

SATURDAY PHOTO HUNT:

TODAY'S WORD IS

N E S T:  a place used by an animal for rearing its young

Oh is mom happy about today's word...
we'd like to show you our

Eastern Bluebird House and Nest(ing) cup
The male bluebird builds the nest  in the cup.
We don't know if he would build w/o it...
because we always use the cups.
The bluebird house is made with a side opening, shown below, so nosy humans can peep in there to check the nest for eggs.
Once the eggs are hatched MOM NEVER opens
the side door.

Once many years ago mom opened the side to check for eggs...
lo and behold the Mrs. BB was in the house..when mom open the side door Mrs. BB almost flew into mom's hair.....SO now
before Mom opens the side door she knocks first.  If Mrs. BB
is there she flies out the front hole.  Usually we get at least one or two broods of baby BB in the spring!  And March is the month Mr. BB starts looking for the perfect real estate for Mrs. BB.
She can be a little picky.  We have full bird feeders and BB pellets
near by,a bird bath, and shrubs close by so she can get a break from the baby BB but keep an eye on the house.

  13. Your Mom has such nice manners to remember to knock first:) It must be fun to watch the nest building and then watch the nestlings grow and mature. Mom used to have canaries that mated and it was so much fun for her own children to watch.

    Happy weekend.

  18. We've never heard of those cups. Our bluebirds seem to like our boxes just fine without them though. We're glad you get some babies too.

  19. That is a great residence for Mrs BB. We have a Mrs BB here who builds her nest in the Leylandii hedge. She is Mrs Blackbird though.

  22. Wow, how cool that you have a BB nesting cup. We find an occasional bird's nest that falls out of the tree and the mom saves them. :)

  23. Wow u have to knock on the door. We will keep an eye out fur blue birds.

  24. So very cool! It really is polite to knock on the door of a home that isn't yours anyway. So your mom is very respectful of those birds! ;)
