Thomas Sayre, the prominent Raleigh artist behind many of the city's most beloved public art installations, is bringing his work to Dorothea Dix Park.
Driving the news: Sayre, using private funding, will turn two power poles in the park into giant, steel sunflowers, the Dix Park Conservancy announced Wednesday.

A sea of cheerful, golden sunflowers stretch out in a Raleigh field for a couple of weeks each summer. The Dorothea Dix Park Sunflowers are a spectacular sight to see and not to be missed - though you'll have to plan your visit just right since the golden beauties only bloom for two weeks.

Thank you, Miss C, for this most excellent post and greetings!!! I wish you could see my great big grin. I imagined showing these to my late daddy, the man of power towers, and how he would tut and shake his head, but would have a sparkle in his eye at the creativity of it. Gorgeous field of flowers too... just wonderful!!! YAM xx
Alive sunflowers are absolutely beautiful. And the giant artwork is going to be so fun for everyone to see. However the most fun was seeing that sweet angel doing downward cat. Happy Friday.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun idea to make those giant sunflowers. Last year we didn't get to the sunflower field but we have gone several times now and they are so beautiful and the whole field is amazing. We always buy some and bring them to Gramma.
ReplyDeleteThose giant sunflowers are so cool. I love those. I also love the field full of sunflowers. They are such pretty flowers.
ReplyDeleteAwesome and interesting post today ... and we, too, send Happy Happy Wishes to Miss Sunny!
ReplyDeleteWhat a cool way to dress up power poles. Too bad more can't be like that.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday to Sunny and YAM. The growing sunflowers are beautiful, and the metal ones are very imposing.
ReplyDeleteBirthday Greetings to Sunny & Yam❣️🎈❤️
ReplyDeleteThe metal sunflowers are very creative, but I love the field of real ones. Madi’s appearance today, made me smile! 😊
What beautiful sunflowers, both real and artistic!
ReplyDeleteThank you soooooo much for my special birthday greeting Aunty C!!!
xoxo,
Sunny
(Rosy and Beth too!)
Those sunflowers!!!... they make me so happy! How cool of the park to make that space for them. They are just a super happy thing :)
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to Sunny and Yam... I don't know them well but everybody should get a Happy Birthday Wish! The power pole art is amazing.
I forgot to say how happy I am to see a flashback of Madi doing her daring feats of feline athleticism!

ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to Sunny and YAM Aunty! I like the sunflower sculptures. And I love the photo of Angel Madi. XO
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday to Auntie Yam.
ReplyDeleteThose towers are so unique and lovely to see. It often only takes one person to take the initiative for this kind of change and make it happen. And wow, that field of sunflowers! I can see why so many come just to see it! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteHey there Angel Madi. Are you giving yoga lessons up there with the Big Guy? XOX Xena
Those metal sunflower towers are quite interesting. And the field is beautiful too. The sunflower is our state flower - in the summer there are similar fields with massive displays of the flower. Bet the birds love it.
ReplyDeleteWoos - Misty and Timber
I like the idea of public art, and doing it with things which are already there.
ReplyDeleteDownward Cat, yes! This was a great capture. Thank you for linking up with Feline Friday.
Been MIA because we had one of our 2 day sales this weekend. Have another next weekend. I have a large patch of sunflowers planted, but may not get any. Have noticed the doves and other birds flying out of it.
