Several years ago I bought 2 T shirt dresses the red (below) and a black and white striped both on sale at Walmart. Both were a bit short for my age. My intention was to return them; however, during a recent merging and purging in my closet I discovered I still had them. I engaged my creative sewing brain coming up with a plan to use them. The black and white striped one was a shift. The red had the flared tiered skirt and pockets. I cut off about 10" from the bottom of the black and white, hemmed it making a very comfy and cool top. The bottom of the red dress was at least 2 times wider than the black and white. I cut the black and white in half. Then I cut each half again giving me 4 pieces all the same width. I sewed the 4 pieces of black and white together, attached it to the bottom of the red dress. I have a new cool top and a new summer dress. I am happy with both of my creations. The dress is very cool and comfy to walk in on hot days too

That was a good idea. The red dress looks lovely with the contrast hem.
ReplyDeleteKeep practicing, Cali!

ReplyDeleteVery creative stitching Miss C! I think in slightly cooler days, you could layer these as well... YAM xx

ReplyDeleteI say "yay" to your creativity, Cecilia. Dad, however, snickered something stupid about you making a Frankenstein dress. Idiot.
ReplyDeleteI wish I had tryed harder I Home Ec in 1961, so that I could do things like this. they are both my top two favorite colors, and I saw on TV this week that black is now trending, YAY finally I am trending since its what I have worn or years
ReplyDeletePS love the sailboat in your header
DeleteWow, I'm impressed, Cecilia! The dress and top look fabulous! I can barely sew a button on. My mom was terrific at sewing, but I didn't inherit her interest. Lol.
ReplyDeleteCali, my angel Nicki is egging you on! He, too, was full of mischief, all the time!
Angel Madie looks ready to sail often to the cool breezes of the ocean. And your lovely red dress, that was a clever idea. I see that Cali is enjoying her 15 minutes of fame.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea that was with the dresses. I love the new red dress with the striped bottom and the striped one makes a great summer top.
ReplyDeleteVery creative and don't you just love making things work out? I do.
ReplyDeleteI really like the shirt! It's been hard to find shirts lately. I like a 3/4 sleeve and there is not much to find this time of year. I like what you did with the dress. It's such a pretty red. The hem makes it special. I haven't had a dress on in years and I mean years. Maybe since my thirties!
