One of our hosts for Nature Friday host LLB Gang

Dear Auntie HiC,
Mom just finished reading Raising Hare by Chloe Dalton.
Mom had 2 bunnies as classroom pets, so she had a special interest in reading this book.
The bunnies had a light left on in the classroom every night, and they were content in their spacious cage, which was well-stocked with food, water, and Timothy hay.
The bunnies would come home every weekend and holiday.

The buns had a magical effect on the kids. When the class would get too loud, Mom would remind them that the bunnies big ears were very sensitive to loud noises, and the room would instantly become silent. ❣️
Even our second grade weekly “Book Buddies” loved the bunnies.

The book is the memoir of a young woman who discovers a leveret, a baby hare. Fearing for its safety, she decides to take it home, hoping to prevent any unfortunate fate.
Even if you’re not particularly interested in rabbits, I believe you’ll find this book enchanting.
Some reviews include:
NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • FINALIST FOR THE 2025 WOMEN'S PRIZE • A moving and fascinating meditation on freedom, trust, loss, and our relationship with the natural world, explored through the story of one woman’s unlikely friendship with a wild hare.
“A philosophical masterpiece ruminating on our place as human beings in nature.”—Matt Haig, author of The Midnight Library
“A perfect testimony to the transformative power of love. In learning to love an orphaned hare, Chloe Dalton learned to love the whole wild world. The great gift of this remarkable book is the way it teaches us to do the same.”—Margaret Renkl, author of The Comfort of Crows

Kat you are a purrfect reading buddy for Mom. I can tell you both thoroughly enjoy your quiet time together. I can see that your sweet paws are making biscuits on the bed. Thank you both for sharing the story of Hare and Mom's classroom bunnies.
Lovingly Auntie HiC

BREAKING NEWS
MY AFGHAN IS FINISHED...PLEASE DROP BY TOMORROW
TO READ ALL ABOUT IT.
I have heard about this book...and I should try to find a copy to read. That's a fun flashback picture!
ReplyDeletethat is a wondferful idea to have a classroom pet... and congrats for finishing your project...
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a lovely book. When I was young, probably about 3 or 4, I had three white rabbits, Snowy, Peter and Roma. From their names I assume two were males, but they never fought, or Roma never had babies. I assume the males must have been neutered.
ReplyDeleteYou are a very good reading companion, Kat.
That sounds like it would be a good read.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see your afghan.
Hari OM
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful memory for your mum to have, Kat... there is no doubt that having animals around balance life beautifurly!!! Hugs and whiskeries, YAM-aunty xxx
Kat, Lynn always had a pet rabbit from the time she was about 8 years old until she was about 25. Different ones of course. It was nice that Ms. Kit had a bunny rabbit for her classroom. When you go to the Catholic school you don't get such fun things. We won't talk about what you really get when you're there, lol. We're looking forward to seeing the new blanket tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteMom had a rabbit when she was growing up and when it passed she got a new one. She said they were fun pets but now rabbits only spell trouble outside as we are such rabbit hunters. They make our walks a disaster some mornings!
ReplyDeleteI remember that in grade 2 one of the kids had a rabbit, and he got to bring her or him in from time to time. We passed the bunny around, student to student, up and down the rows. He or she did leave rabbit droppings on my lap once. 😆
ReplyDeleteWe had several rabbits growing up. I loved them all. Kat, you make reading extra special for your Mom. Can't wait to see it Cecilia.
ReplyDeleteRaising Hare sounds like a wonderful read and I can't wait to see your afghan!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on completing the afghan❣️
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like an interesting book. How fun to have a bunny in the class. It looks like the kids enjoyed having it there, too.
