Potluck Friday #5: Things Mom loves....

Happy Potluck Friday!! I'm going to tell you about some of the things Mom L O V E S
Dad, my Sis, Madi, hummingbirds, Ice Cream and Alaska....of course there are more people/things she loves for for the sake of space and time we'll stop with these.
Every so often Dad and I are pleased to see we come before Ice Cream and Alaska

Mom has been infatuated with Alaska for as long as Dad can remember.

Mom has a bucket list #1 was see Elvis Presley in person.

We had seats on the 4th row center. Mom was happy, Daddy scored brownie points.
Many items were checked off the list over the years but # 2, visit Alaska, sat there like a lump on a log. October 2004 they visited AAA, to set up a spring trip to Alaska. On May 20, 2005 at about 11:00 pm Alaskan time, Mom and Dad's plane landed in Fairbanks. They went straight to bed well Dad did, Mom got up several times during the night until she saw the sunrise at about 2am. AMAZING...
As soon as it humanly possible the next day, Mom was eager for her feet to be on Alaskan soil so they took a short walk...lo and behold sitting right behind their hotel look what they found....
ICE CREAM, Alaskan style. Here is Mom having her very first picture taken of her in Alaska....
It was about 40 degrees so if she looks cold she is.....it was 95 in NC the day before. LOL
There was still snow along the sides of the roads in Fairbanks.

The below picture is just one example of how grand they do things in Alaska.
Yep this is the cockpit of a real plane...the ice cream store was built around it.

Unfortunately the ice cream shop wasn't open yet. The time on the picture is wrong.
Mom never changed didn't have a clue to the time on the camera. It was actually about 7 am when the picture was taken.

  2. Oh my goodness, it's Lucky Duck! Were the ducks out and about while you were there. They live inside in the winter and come out when it warms up. I had forgotten all about Pike's Landing.

It is still on the cold side in May but come July it will be in the 90's. It looks like you had a great time in lovely Fairbanks.

PS, In Anchorage in the dead of winter it wasn't unusual to find a crowd at one of the local ice cream parlors.

  5. That's a pretty interesting looking place. I wouldn't mind going to Alaska. I like the cold. I don't think I'd like riding in the baggage compartment all the way there, though, so I can't put it on my list. I'm glad your Mom got to go.

    lotsa licks, Lola

  9. Hi Madi! I found you over at Dory's and though I would pop over to see what a CATS blog looks like! Bol! I was really impressed that cat's errr... I mean..... I was really impressed with your blog and decided to add you to my list of fav's! My Auntie has been to Alaska and loved it a lot! Unfortunately she has Stage II Lung Cancer and although she would very much like to revisit before she crosses over the bridge, she is reluctant. Heck I say as long as you can walk, talk, eat and smile.... Go for it!!! She's thinking about it! I really enjoyed the picture of the airplane in the building..... does this mean that the ice shop will be flying around town? MMMMMM yumo! Special delivery ice cream. Well cool Kat I must admit that you're freckle is adorable!!!! Makes mewant to paint a white one on my nose!!!!

    Hugs & smoochies! xoxo

  13. What a neat building. Glad Mom got to go to Alaska.

I don't have a bucket list. Probably won't ever make one... Since, I tend to do things by ear and on the spur of the moment.

    Have a great weekend!

  15. We are pretty sure we come before ice cream on Mommy's list...but only cuz it makes her sick to eat it. You've got Mommy thinking...she may have to put together a bucket list and start ticking things off...she's awfully ancient.

  16. YAY for your mom and Alaska!!!!!!!!! Now, who would want to eat ice cream when it's so cold???? MOL!!!!!!

Our moms are somewhat alike it appears.....our mama NEVER changes the time on her camera...even when in Ireland.

    Love to you from us!!!

  17. Wish I had known you then. I was living in AK at that time. Went there for kids day, which included dog sled rides and getting candy. What fun it was.

Alaska AND Ice cream are absolutely fine items
for the Bucket List! It is SO worth the trip to get there!
What a temperature change that must have been!
Course, the ice cream tastes even better in July when it can get in the 90's in Fairbanks, with NO humidity! LOL
I'm sure you had a great time with Glennda making your feel like a DIVA!
    Chin Scratches to you,

  22. Alaska was our mum's favourite ever cruise. They did the land tour first and she wouldn't shut the curtains tight because she wanted to see the daylight all through the night.

  23. It's great that your mom got to cross off some things on her bucket list. Our mom would like to visit Alaska someday. Is your mom's favorite dessert Baked Alaska?? ;-)
