Tuesday Tale: The zoo in my yard

Everyone knows, next to my furry self, Mom loves
birds of all flavors...and I'm ok with that since they don't live in my house.  HOWEVER,

it appears there is a new kind of bird in our 'hood,
Mom said he is A Turkey (A.T.).
The peeps have lived in this house for 28 years.
They pretty much thought they had figured out how to keep the
likes of A.T. off the bird feeders. A.T. relatives
have been purrfectly happy to graze below the feeders

Note the darling little rabbit on the right of the picture.  Even he is
astounded at A.T.
This is where the hummingbird feeder hangs from April through
October.  This year she decided to put a seed feeder here through the winter. She was delighted to see it was being emptied nearly
every other day.  Now she knows why.  A.T. has figured
out he can jump from the edge of the bird bath.  He lands on the cone baffled and somehow before he falls he lands in the
feeder.
We think he is new to the 'hood and must have a PhD in Physics.

Darling Mr. Rabbit was happy to see A.T. move in to the 'hood.
Mr. Rabbit sits right here waiting for A.T. to scatter
seed on the ground.
So I guess it is a win-win for all.  The birds have extra food, A.T. is getting food and so is Mr. Rabbit. Mom says the A.T. best find another fast food dive-in (yes dive 'cause he dives for it). The feeder will be moved soon in preparation for her Hummer's return.

  3. Wow,look at all that wildlife you have in your back garden, how exciting. What a clever squizzel he is, but the bunny is even more clever cause he knows to wait patiently for the food to drop :)xx

  4. BOL BOL BOL Squirrel!!! Oops sorry my primal instincts took over. My Mommy had to our deck feeder away cause at night the possums and raccoons would fight out there something awful and it made me go all crazy cracker dog so now we don't get to see our friends Homer and Marge Cardinal and their family as much.

  5. Goodness Madi, your backyard really is a zoo. Mr. Squirrel is one tricky fellow. He will let humans think they have tricked him then he will make his move. That little bunny is so cute, we haven't seen any in our yard in a long time. You have a great view of the action from your window.

PS, mom set up a squirrel feeder one time that had a hinged lid. The squirrels had to work for their nuts. It was fun to watch.

  6. Madi, we are on our way over, no self respective dog could allow AT to sit there as if he owns the place!
It is our mission in life to chase all of his species.............!
Come to think of it we would kinda need to chase the bunny too............we don't do cute!

  9. Madi, you had me going there! I thought you meant a real Turkey in your yard!
You mean the furry kind, 4 legs and a designer tail type of turkey that steals
    the bird seed!! LOL
Quite a symbiotic relationship: birds get their seed, AT gets his and Mr. Bunny gets
    to nibble, too!
You're right, a little zoo going on in your yard!
Consider it "cable TV" for a feline! MOL

  13. A.T. you are a norty squirrel. Mom used to battle the squirrels until we had too many cats to put seed out. Those squirrels can get to the seed no matter what you do.But at least you are helping that cute little rabbit. Take care.

  14. YIKES.....I hate to break this to you, Madi, butt that is NO Turkey! That is a dreaded Squirrel! I'd be happy to give you some pointers on barking and skeering him off your premises. Oh, butt you can't bark, can you? Well, guess you are on your own BOL!!!

  15. Mommy was laughing her fool head off, you had her fooled that she was gonna see a FEATHERED turkey! The Baby and Kona remember those sorts of A.T.'s, but the rest of us have never seen one for real.

  16. We don't see many of those kind of turkeys in our yard. Only sometimes on our walks on the trail. We do have a pair of real turkeys that live somewhere in the woods along the trail because we see them a lot. We keep thinking we might see some little turkeys trailing behind, but we never see any.

Hope Mom can get some pics of those hummers for us to see too.

  17. Is that what your mom fixes for Thanksgiving? I hope you don't have many guests as that's not enough meat for a good sandwich! :)

  18. MOL! We thought it was going to be a turkey with feathers too. Those squirrely turkeys sometimes have the nerve to come into our garden, so I chase them up the tree.

  19. We got A.T.s at our house too. Madi, you should see them climb on the birdie feeders! They hang upside down and sideways. And they eat the birdies' food. But they are fun to watch!!

  20. That's a strange looking turkey! Bawhahahaha! We have rabbits in our yard, too. I can smell them, but they are so fast they sometimes fly right by me and I don't even notice. For some reason, my mom finds this hysterical!
