Thoroughly Poetic Pictorial Thursday

Today we join Two  SPOILED CAT
Angel Sammy and Teddy for their poetic pictorial poem.

Here is today's photo prompt

Simpler times: Late 50's
TVees were new and so small.
You had to nearly sit on top of them for any view.
A postage stamp was taller.
Come Friday Daddy got home early
He bellowed girlies get in the car.
Off the the drive-in movies we went, it wasn't far.
No matter where you parked your view
was panoramic and fun was contagious from car to car.
You had your own speaker right there on the window.
Best of all was a trip to the concession stand
for a bottle Pepsi,it was ice cold, popcorn and
hot dogs all on a tray to go.
Life was simpler by far....watching movies from your car.

  1. Lovely poem. When Gail was working in Oklahoma most of the driving in movie theaters had closed down, but there was one open in Pawhuska, OK, and her American friends wanted to take her there. (For obvious weather reasons, we've never had drive in movie theatres in the UK). The film showing was 'The Hunt for Red October'. Unfortunately after half an hour of watching a fuzzy screen the projectionist admitted that the equipment had a fault they couldn't fix and everyone had their dollar refunded and went home. I wonder if Gail could write a poem about that episode?

  3. Daddy never took us, but I went with friends in KY and in Savannah, and when we came here to FL to visit my grandmother, mother and my aunt took us kids. the last movie I saw at a drive in was in 1969, Play Misty for Me, mother kept my two babies and we went. I loved the drive in, but we could not afford the food, so took koolaid and popcorn with us.

I experienced my first and last drive-in movie in Sydney back in the 1980s... a desperately hanging-on site which is now no more... I think all childhood memories are of simpler times. Probably because they were! YAM xx

  10. There were still functioning drive-ins when I was in high school, and I remember once when we snuck in a few kids in the trunk of the car, and we all drank sloe gin and 7-up! LOL!

  12. There's a drive-in theater in the town where ghostwriter works. Even though people have big screen TVs at home, that drive-in still gets plenty of business!

  22. What a great walk down memory Lane, Madi. We actually have a drive in theatre within driving distance, and when the weather isn't sweltering, we go and take the dogs. Now, instead of a speaker hanging on your window, the sound comes through your car radio.

  23. What a fun poem! The mom has great memories of the drive in. When she was a kid, her mom and dad would pile everyone in the station wagon and go to the drive in. Too bad the drive ins are just about gone now.

  26. OMD, when Ma was a wee lass, she and her family would go to the drive-ins all the times! We didn't have much green papers, so it was a cheap and fun way to spend a Friday night! We had a white utility van, and we would all pile in the back with the doors open and sleeping bags...it was super funs! Plus, how pawsome is it to go out in your PJ's??! The last Drive-in closed a couple of years ago here....too expensive. sigh.
    Kisses,
    Ruby ♥
