Bears in New Bern

New Bern, North Carolina's second oldest town, was founded in 1710 by a Swiss nobleman who named it after his native city of Berne, Switzerland. Bern means “bear” and the “Bern Bear” symbol is seen on the flag. Commemorative cast-iron bear heads decorate the historic City Hall and Central Fire Station.

  1. I love all the bears! Very cool and makes for a smile this morning. Very interesting. We had dolphin statues for a season one year on the island in Venice. But they were not as cute as New Bern's bears!

I love the blue colorful bear best of all. they are really all so cute.. flip flops belong here. we don't have bears every where, we have lizards, big ones on all the buildings and houses... I would have one but they are to expensive. I would like to visit New Bear, ha ha

  7. Those bears are fun! There was a bear pit in Bern, Switzerland. It was more than 50 years ago that I saw it so I don't know if it is still there. Wild animals don't belong in captivity so I hope not.

    1. I googled it and see they have had a large outdoor enclosure for the past 10 years.
