Dear Auntie HiC,
The squirrel population has quadrupled here this spring. Not only are they eating Mom's flowers, they’ve also started chewing on our new roof! 🙀
OH MY CATS WHAT THE HECK CHEWING ON YOUR ROOF THAT IS A FIRST.
I THINK THE SPRING 2025 TREE RATS MIGHT HAVE BEEN DROPPED OFF FROM AN ALIEN SHIP. NEVER HEARD OF THAT BEFORE.!!
HUGS Auntie HiC
Dad got out the live catch cage, captured & relocated 20 squirrels in 5 days!
No squirrels were harmed in the process. If any of our friends would like a couple squirrels we will gladly relocate to your neck of the woods! 😹
A friend told Mom to sprinkle cinnamon at the base of the plant to deter the varmints, & so far it’s working.
Dad bought Mom a new mandevilla,
but it’s not going outside until the squirrels are more respectful! 😹
I’m on guard, and ever vigilant.
❤️ Rocky
Hidey Ho my dear nephews and niece..
The squirrels we have this year are highly educated...I think one has a PhD in Physics........but he didn't realize I worked in Physics for 25 years, I know all the tricks of the trade.
Hugs and love Your Auntie HiC
omg omg really? and what will they eat next?pups and kitties maybe? run run ruuuun....
ReplyDeleteHoly cat! That is A LOT of squirrels! I remember my grandfather used to trap squirrels and take them to the park so they'd leave his garden alone.
ReplyDeleteHari OM
ReplyDeleteOMC, a squirrel or two might be considered cute and tolerable... but going into the double figures? That's an outbreak!!! Well done to dad for getting that trap working so well... hugs and whiskeries, YAM-aunty xxx
That's 20 squirrels too many. We didn't get any pears, last year because of them. I had to cover my Japanese Persimmon before they got all of them. This year I have the Tiger and Bear pack that I hope will keep them out of the yard.
ReplyDeleteI have not heard of squirrels eating the roof, I hope the ones that scamper about on our roof are not doing that, we can't see what they do up there but we hear them. yikes, now something else to fret over...
ReplyDeleteThose are sure destructive squirrels and we're glad your dad is trapping them and we hope the relocation is far far away. Your mom's Mandeville is sure pretty!
ReplyDeleteIt's bad enough to have a squirrel eating your flowers but chewing on a new roof is taking it too far. Those squirrels have got to go. 20 in 5 days is a lot of squirrels. I wonder why there are so many of them.
ReplyDeleteDear Rocky , I am on squirrel look at all the time when my eyes are open. They're staying off of my patio so far. But they'll jump over the fence sometime this summer because they always do. You've got to protect that beautiful flower your mommy got. Precious PS mothballs don't do a thing but stink. You could try sprinkling hot pepper seeds.
ReplyDeleteSquirrels are just now coming out around here but our issue is rabbits. They are exploding and it is making Mom's life rough because we all have rabbit brain.
ReplyDeleteWow! twenty squirrels in 5 days is a ridiculous amount. Well done to your dad for catching them. I hope he is relocating them far away or they will be back! Flynn used to be our squirrel deterrent. We still don't see them near the garden and they stay down in the wooded area a couple of fields away. I think Flynn's reputation lingers on!
ReplyDeleteWe had a squirrel chew through our roof when we lived on The Tiny Ten (acres) in MO. She took up residence there (we didn't know till later) and had her kids. It got rowdy up above us and we finally called Critter Control. They got the squirrels and we had to have a contractor come and fix the soffit, fascia and the roof. They are cute but they are destructive and angry when you try to evict them. We had a lot of fox squirrels! That said, we found a baby fox squirrel and took care of him until we found a rescue and when he was ready to be released we brought him back and gave him his own squirrel box on the Tiny Ten. Squee was his name♥
ReplyDeleteSquirrels are cute, but they certainly can cause a lot of damage, as can chipmunks. How far away do they have to be relocated, to avoid them returning to their "home" territory? Maybe the animals and birds that prey on them are fewer this year, allowing those pesky squirrels to multiply.
ReplyDeleteThose squirrels sure are a cheeky bunch. We hope moving them out helps.
ReplyDeleteWe sure wish we knew who imported all these trouble makers! Just when we think we have them under control here...We see their sneaky moozles on our trail camera!
ReplyDeleteStay vigilant!!
xoxo,
Rosy & Sunny
You've been overran by tree rats. They are onery little buggers. Looks like you've found a way to trim down the problem. Good for you. I know you love seeing them though. Not mom, but you.
ReplyDeleteThank you for joining the Happy Tuesday Blog Hop.
Have a fabulous Happy Tuesday. Big hug to Auntie C and Kit and scritches to the kitties. ♥

ReplyDeleteI'm having a terrible year here trying to keep the rabbits and deer from eating my plantings. I've literally chased them away when mowing, with the hose and spraying them with water (which they don't seem to like). Thinking if I make it uncomfortable enough they'll stop coming....but, it's not working. I'm the only one trying to discourage them of my neighbors, so even more surprising they keep coming here when they have options. I've also spread Deer Scram, and Rabbit Scram. I've had to replace one of the plants in the back that they completely destroyed. A 2nd one is looking bad, fingers crossed I can salvage it. I've also been told to try Cheyenne Pepper, which I've not yet done; but Cinnamon...wonder if that would work for my critters? I have squirrels, but they don't seem to eat the plants, so am leaving them alone for now.
ReplyDeleteOophs, had trouble with my link above, as I had something else on my clipboard and had forgotten. This should correct it.
ReplyDeleteI am proud of you all for the guarding on the squirrel front. 20 squirrels in five days? Yowza to put it mildly! I never heard that about Cheyenne Pepper or Cinnamon. How sweet of Dad to buy your Mom a new Mandevilla. I hope any marauding rascal will leave it along. Love to all and sending hugs :)
ReplyDeleteThey chew to wear down their teeth, like so many rodents. I hope you can figure a way to get rid of them.
ReplyDeleteI am impressed your dad caught so many in a day. XO
ReplyDeleteThese squirrels need to be part of Oona's (Oceanside Animals) stories. Or you need a ratter. After all, they're just tree rats, right? (Xena is volunteering for the job.)
ReplyDeleteIf the squirrel population is booming it must be because of bigger nuts.
ReplyDeleteSquirrels moving out sounds like a good plan to me!
