Krispy Kreme Doughnut Challenge Day

What is this you ask?
It is the halfway point** to the 6th Annual Krispy Kreme Doughnut Challenge
Keep reading for the details.......

Saturday, February 6, dawned cold and gray with intermittent snow flurries....
but not to worry those entered in the Annual Krispy Kreme Doughnut Challenge would not
be cold because they were about to consume 1 dozen Krispy Kreme Doughnuts.
The race is to raise money for N. C. Childern's Hospital. There were 6,000
participants who would eat a total of 72,000 doughnuts.

The starting point of the race is N C State Univeristy's Memorial Bell Tower pictured below

They ran to the Krispy Kreme Doughnut** parking lot a distance of ~2.4 miles
where each participant was given 1 dz 'Hot Now' Doughnuts to eat
then run back to the NC State Memorial Bell Tower, hopefully without barfing along the way,
MOL, LOL.
Some of the strategy used to scarf down 1 dz doughnuts is to mash as many as 3 or 4
together making a doughnut sandwich eating all at one time, another is to
dunk the doughnuts in water to remove the sugar glaze then eating them.....phew!!!
Madi here: Mom and Dad told me about this stupid human trick.

Since it was for a good cause, I give it one paw.....but I have to ask what is a doughnut, why do humans feel the need to eat them then run 4.8 miles in the cold and snow?
Worse yet!!!!Dad is now talking about starting a training regimen for next year's Challenge. He says his regimen will be focused on the doughnut consumption part. I told him good luck with that project 'cause as soon as Mom sees him eating them he will be on bread and water.

Statistics on 72,000 dougnhuts:

1.weight one third of a ton
2. a stack of 72,000 doughnuts would stand about 7,500'
3. eating 1dz doughnuts will get you 144 grams of fat,120 grams of sugar, 1,140 milligrams of sodium and 2,400 calories
4. for 6,000 participants that comes to 14.4 million total calories...the equivalent of enough energy to power a 60 watt light bulb for 31.8 years.

I, Madi, rest my case......STUPID HUMAN TRICKS
Mom and I would like to thank Dad for his valuable contribution to this post!!!

THANKS DAD!!!

We agree with you, how did you get so smart? Mommy won't even go near that place. She would like to, but she won't!

  2. You are a very wise kitty, Madi; it is for a good cause, but it sounds stupid to us too for people to eat so many donuts and run=can't they just donate the money for 72,000 donuts?...Mom says that seems like a lot of money and nobody would get diabetes, whatever that is...purrs...Calle, Halle, Sukki

  3. Hi Madi & Mom,

You really are a smart kitty Madi, if humans would just listen to cat wisdom the world would be a much better place.

I suppose since it is for a good cause it's ok but it does sound silly doesn't it? Instead of donuts, whatever those are, why don't they eat something good like fish? Meow.

  4. Madi, you're right, it is a stupid human trick! But one that only young humans (college years) can come up with!
I would love to eat just one Krispy Kreme, NOT A DOZEN! oink oink!
But it was a good cause!
Chin Scratch to you, Hugs to Mom

  8. Hi Madi

We have to agree that is a stupid human trick but it is for a good cause, so with that being said, it almost makes up for the stupid human trick.
We hope they at lease made some money for the children's hospital.

  9. Madi Dear, I need you at my house to help reprimand my hubby when eating an entire tube of cinnamon rolls at 9 PM.

You know he had the audacity to tell me I was mean for yelling at him. Why do you suppose I yelled at him. Because I'm on a sugar-free diet.

I told him how "MEAN" he was for cooking them and how much his life was endangered at that particular moment in time with the smell of cinnamon rolls wafting thru the house.

  15. Dear Madi, we agree with you....it was a worthy cause, but such an unhealthy way to raise the money.

  17. Hi Madi!

    I think you're right...silly beans!
Good cause -- but a dozen donuts!
Momma gave up white sugar 2 years ago -- she gave up white carbs too. No white bread, rice,pasta,sugar...all bad for Momma glucose.

The running would be good though!
Ha, I bet any of us kitties could outrun any of dem beans too!

    Abby

  18. I am on your side on this one Madi. And since M.O.M. just told me that they have closed our Krispy Kreme store so I will never get the chance to taste one of their "donuts". I don't understand what a donut is but if it has sugar on it, it must be pretty good! Hugs and wags, Mistaya

  19. Madi, I want you to know that the light is always on on my porch for you, even though I know you're only coming over for our birds.
As for the KK race...I'm going to let you in on a secret. My momma is an addict. She would have run a lot further than that for a KK coupled with the cause. Please Madi, don't badmouth KK donuts around my mother.
    Twink!

  20. Well, it was for a good cause, but mom says she can't eat KK donuts because they are WAY too sweet!!! She likes donuts, but not theirs. She did fall in love wiff Tim Horton's coffee and donuts in Vancouver last year. They are a Canadian chain, that I hear is expanding into the US. Mom sure hopes so, BOL!

  21. Wow we never heard anything like this before! That sounds like it would be tought (although I could probably do a dozen Krispy Kremes it would not be quickly). Of course, I think all our Krispy Kremes are closed now, but this really makes me want to eat one!

  22. I think that I better keep this post away from my Daddy...he LOVES Krispy Kremes and would want to do the eating part of the challenge too!

  24. Madi, we really enjoyed the Kitty Sarcasm in your post today. Quite enjoyable and love the "one paw" stretch. The photo is really good too. What ever you do, never try to eat a doughnut. You will not like it. The Pussycats say so. Josie on the other hand...that's another story! Much Love. Woof Soon. Meow!

  25. Now if it was a Greenies or a Temptations Challenge, we'd be all over that!! Humans are weird...and they eat weird things...even though mom says Krispy Kremes are really good!
